This page is now officially affiliated With San Martin de Porres Church SATX These future legendary members have also made an impact in our church.

Over the years, the Coro Mexicano of San Martin de Porres has withstood the test of time as being one of the few longest active ministry at our church. This got me thinking of how this group has inspired many other choirs all over the city to be created and how many individuals were inspired to become great musicians in the worldly music as well as in the church. Amongst this choir, there have bee

n many individuals who have stood out above the rest, making them not just the backbone and cornerstone of this choir, but they have become Legends in their own right. Withstanding the test of time, many of these members that will be inducted into this Hall of Legends have devoted themselves till their dying day. Then I started to see the impact this legendary choir has made in our church that has inspired new generations to expand the music ministry to the other Masses Held at our church. They too will join the ranks in time. This page will soon induct the first Members in the San Martin de Porres Hall of Legends in the very first class of 2015.

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that our Legendary icon has gone home. Tony Escalante passed away earlier this morning at the age of 93.

Tony was one of the last living original members of the Coro Mexicano de San Martin de Porres. He wrote a few songs for the Coro and was the choir director at one point. He also took the role of San Juan Diego for San Martin's Virgen de Guadalupe dramatization for many years.

His love and devotion to the music ministry at San Martin is why we recognized him as a living legend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his son, David Escalante and the entire Escalante family. He will be greatly missed. 😔

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of our greatest legends. We received word this morning that Fernando Hernandez, former director of the Legendary Coro Mexicano, has passed away.

We want to extend our deepest condolences to the Hernandez family. Fernando played the accordion for the Coro Mexicano from 1970 to about 2004. He, and the rest of the original musicians and singers, are the reason why the Coro Mexicano de San Martin de Porres was well known throughout not only San Antonio, but in many small towns in South Texas.

At this time, we don't know if, when or where any services will be done. If we receive word, we will pass it on.

Rosary service for Lucinda Sanchez will be held tomorrow evening at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Viewing starts at 6:00pm followed by the Rosary at 6:30pm.

We are asking for prayers for one of our Music ministry legends, Lucinda Sanchez. She is currently in hospice.

Lucinda is one of the original choir singers in the San Martin de Porres Coro Mexicano. Please pray for Lucinda's family as well. 😔
