Wow, what an incredible ride it has been the last couple of weeks. Our home church, FBC San Angelo, and Pastor Greg, blessed us with a "sending out" service. Our good friend Buddy Helms stated that God has already commissioned us so this was our sending out service. We cannot thank everyone enough that came to this sending out service. We had people from our home back in Dublin, Tx. We had class mates from high school, we had a teacher from junior high school, friends from Midland, CMA members, our family, our Sunday school class at FBC San Angelo. We had people from all of the churches that are supporting us, FBC San Angelo, FBC Dublin, Harris Avenue Baptist Church, Brushy Top Cowboy Church. We are blessed beyond belief, so many people to thank and appreciate for backing us and praying for us during this time.
Tuesday, May 12 was go time. We drove to DFW and flew out at 5:15pm to Atlanta. At 11:30pm we left for Lima, Peru and flew overnight and landed at 5:00am. This was the hectic part - or so we thought. We had to go through immigration, get to baggage claim and pick up our load of bags, go to the check in counter as it is a domestic flight, and check our luggage again and then get through TSA. God was looking out for us as this whole process didn't take long and no issues at all. Our flight to Cajamarca was not until 11:30am so we had some down time before our final leg of the trip. At 1:00pm we landed in Cajamarca. Our good friends Pastor Carlos and Beto met us there and drove us to Villa Milagro.
We have been here for about six days now and we are slowly adjusting. Trying to get our new home in order and make it feel like our home. We made a couple of trips in to downtown to get groceries and some home stuff we needed. I thought the traffic in NYC was bad. It's a game of millimeters and kind of an organized chaos. Probably the hardest things for us will be learning the language and driving in this traffic.
We have a group of about 50 people from Melbourne, Arkansas that arrived this morning and will be here for a week. They will be around town and a couple of villages outside of town to do medical clinics, dental clinics, and eye glass clinics along with purchasing and delivering food to some of the poorest in town. On Sunday we will celebrate an anniversary service with Mount Sion church, the church that Villa Milagro started and a local pastor leads.
We have been so blessed with this opportunity to serve in this country alongside others that have built a legacy here at Villa Milagro. We want to continue to build on what Larry Johnson built years ago. God gave him a vision and we want to honor that.
Prayer needs at this time are for us to be able to learn the language, for me to be able to drive without anxiety and fear, for us to learn as much as we can about Villa Milagro and grow the ministry and for us to adjust to this new life.
