Word of Life Assembly Check us out on our new site! www.thewordoflifechurch.com They didn't know at the time they would be starting a church. This is where it all began.

Thirty years ago, sitting in a parking lot in front of the old Holiday Inn Convention Center, David and Gaynell Smith said,"What can we name this place, this group of people." The Lord directed them to Philipians 2:16 which says,"Holding out to them the word of life." When the church began, services were conducted in a small room at the old Holiday Inn Convention Center. Before the Smith's could b

egin services in one of the hotel's meeting rooms, they often had to clean up trash and party favors discarded by the night before. They perservered and more and more people attened the services. During their first year at the Holiday Inn, they had about 100 members and the fledgling church was using the hotel banquet room. In 1984, the church moved to a new location on Avenue C. They moved to a new building which quickly became packed. They stayed there for a year and had about 200 people at that time. As the church grew, they had to move yet again but this time, to a building they built from the ground up. Since then, the church has grown to over 500 members and has built a new main building and has dedicated the original building to the youth and children's ministries. Currently, the church is working on building a third building that will be used as a multipurpose facility.
