God “allows” many things. MANY. Some things are good, and God honoring. Some are bad, sinful and just messed up.
But for the follower of Christ, It’s less about what God allows and more about the freedom to choose.
In the OT Joshua tells Israel, “… fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness…and serve the LORD.”(Joshua 24:14
He goes on to say,
“Choose you this day, whom you will serve…”
“As for me and my house we
Will serve the Lord”(Joshua 24:15)
He urged them to serve God and let them know, it was to be his and his family’s pursuit to serve God.
To say that God allowed this or that may sound holy, but it’s actually weak and arrogant. If things go well, we can give God glory,if things don’t we can blame God. If we want to obey-God gets the cred, but if obedience seems to coslty, we can blame God for not obeying, because God didn’t allow it.
God calls us to choose. He gives us the freedom to decide to be stretched and grow…or not. Daily, we get to choose. Choosing to be kind, to love, to persevere, to be generous, to forgive, to sacrifice, etc. the list is endless really.
Instead of randomly thanking God for allowing us to do this thing or that. How about thanking him for giving us the freedom to choose and the power, in Christ to honor him with those choices, proving that we belong to him.
Jesus says,
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24)
To know what Jesus specifically talking about here, go back and read Matthew 5-7
God allowing things is an excuse.
God calling us to choose
Is love. One costs us more than the other.
What will you choose?
