Superheroes aren't heroic only when they feel like it — they're brave each and every day. The best heroes can even inspire the people around them to be brave, faithful, and hopeful in their own lives, too. In this 4-week series, kids will learn more about what it looks like to see God as the hero of our story as they hear the story of Ruth and Naomi. They'll see how God gives them companions, opportunities, boldness, and hope so they can be heroes, too!

Week 2 conversation

BIG IDEA: God listens to our requests.
BIBLE: 1 Kings 3:1–15; Proverbs 22:1–2, 8–9, 22–23
CONVERSATION:
What did Solomon ask God for? Wisdom.

Why did Solomon ask for wisdom instead of other things like riches and honor?
He wanted to serve God's people well, he knew he was young and needed help governing the people.

What was God's response to Solomon's request?
God was pleased with Solomon. God gave him great wisdom and even blessed him with more than he asked for.

Read Proverbs 22:1–2.
How do these words written by Solomon show that God listened to his request for wisdom?

What are some things that we can ask God for?

What do you think it means if God doesn't give us something we request?

How can we be sure God always listens to us?

BIG IDEA: God gives us directions to follow.
BIBLE: 1 Kings 1:5–14, 29–35; James 1:19–25

CONVERSATION:
Who was supposed to be the rightful king after David?

Solomon.

How do we know Adonijah was going against God's directions?

He tried to sneak about in his quest to become king. He declared himself king, and he didn't tell or include those who should have known.

How did David make sure God's directions were followed?
He had Solomon ride in on his mule and had a celebration for the announcement of Solomon being the king, as well as had him be escorted to sit on the king's throne.

Read James 1:22. How does this verse remind us of today's Big Idea?

Where can we find directions from God?

Who are some people I can surround myself with to help me follow God's directions?

What does it mean to follow God's directions?

King Solomon is best known for his wisdom and for building God’s temple. Thankfully, he passed on his wisdom so others c...

King Solomon is best known for his wisdom and for building God’s temple. Thankfully, he passed on his wisdom so others could have a strong foundation for building up their faith. In this 5-week series, kids will hear from Solomon and the wisdom he shared about the kind of life God wants to help us build. They'll see that God gives them directions to follow, listens to their requests, is worthy of their worship, and gives them true wisdom.

BIG IDEA: God asks us to help each other.
BIBLE: Elisha and The Widow's Oil: 2 Kings 4:1-7;

Galatians 6:1-10 CONVERSATION:
• What was the problem the widow needed help with? A creditor wanted to take away her two sons as payment for her late husband's debts.
• Where did the widow get the jars for the oil? The widow's neighbors helped her by giving her their empty jars.
• What did God do with all the empty jars they had collected? Filled them with oil from the widow's small jar, which didn't stop flowing until all the jars were full.
• Read Galatians 6:2. What do you think it means to "carry each other's burdens"?
Possible answers: We help each other out with whatever they're going through. When someone shares their feelings or worries with you, you listen, love them, and help them if you can.
• Do you find it easy or difficult to help others? Why?
• What special skill or talent do you have that could be helpful to someone else?
• What is one way (big or small) that you can help someone else today?
