The long history of Christianity is filled inspiring saints, faithful reformers, and dedicated teachers. But, like so many other things it also has its bleaker side. The annals of church history offer glimpses of events that are truly bizarre, unsettling, and, to some, even a little embarrassing. As we enter more deeply into autumn and pumpkin spice fills the air, this is the perfect time to examine the spookier side of the Christian story. We’ll examine witch hunts, a pope’s co**se on trial, exorcisms, and the lucrative trade in saintly body parts. Each story reveals how fear, superstition, and power can distort the gospel’s message. Together we’ll learn how to face these grimmer chapters honestly, and how they can caution and guide us in living faithfully today.

This Sunday, in honor of Saint Francis, we will bless our beloved animals at both our 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. Bring your neighbors, your friends, and your friend's pets! If your pet would not enjoy the service, please feel free to bring a photograph or a stuffed animal in its stead. Hope to see you there!

With the back-to-school season upon us, Good Sam will take a moment during the 8am and 10:30am services on September 14th to bless backpacks, bags, purses, phones, and other tools of work for all ages! As a group we will bless all of the many and varied things that people have brought as a way of marking them for God as we begin a new season of learning and living! Doors open to all!
