United Jewish Federation of Utah

United Jewish Federation of Utah For more than 75 years, United Jewish Federation of Utah has served as our community's coordinating body for fundraising, planning, and communal services.

Federation helps sustain and improve the lives of people in Utah, Israel, and around the world. Through a network of partnering organizations, Federation builds and strengthens Jewish community; in Utah to our homeland, from the homebound to the homeless, from elderly Jews in Russia to North American teens discovering their birthright in Israel. Federation is the heart and soul of North American J

ewry's philanthropic and humanitarian activities. It embodies a 3,500-year-old tradition of caring that goes back to the giving of the Torah and sustains us in the bold pursuit of Jewish community, Jewish values and Jewish peoplehood. Federation is the people who care enough to want to perfect an imperfect world. Federation is the passion of commitment, where tzedakah and a sense of social justice can make a difference in someone's life.

In 2023, after October 7, Amit Shem Tov came to Utah to fight for his brother Omer, kidnapped by Hamas, sharing his story without knowing if he was alive, determined he would not be forgotten, refusing to be silent. Last week, that story came full circle. Omer returned, and stood with us at the Ben Gurion Society to share his powerful story, in his own voice; A testament to resilience, to hope, and to the power of a community that refuses to stay silent.
When October 7 shook us to our core, we showed up. We carried their names. We held pain, hope, and prayer all at once. Because community is power - and even when the world feels shattered, we still choose to carry our voices forward and rebuild.
At this year's Ben Gurion Society Gala, that power moved through us, binding us together and calling us forward. Together, we turned presence into action - making an impact on our Jewish life locally and around the world.

Federation Condemns Shooting Targeting Iman Shuaib

The United Jewish Federation of Utah is deeply alarmed by the shooting that occurred last evening targeting Iman Shuaib as he traveled to the Utah Islamic Center for prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. Multiple shots were fired at his vehicle, and we are profoundly grateful that he was not physically injured. No faith leader, and no person, should fear violence because of who they are or where they pray.

Law enforcement officials have indicated they are investigating all possible motives, including the possibility of a hate crime. Regardless of motive, violence directed at a faith leader and a house of worship threatens the safety and dignity of all Utahns. We stand in unequivocal solidarity with Iman Shuaib, his family, and the Muslim community across our state. Our state is strongest when neighbors stand together across lines of faith and background, ensuring our houses of worship remain places of peace and safety.

We are deeply distressed by the reported arson attack that severely damaged Beth Israel Congregation early this morning - the only synagogue in Jackson, Mississippi. While we are grateful that no one was injured and that a suspect is in custody, the destruction of a house of worship and sacred Torah scrolls is heartbreaking, particularly for a small community with no other place to gather, learn, and pray.

An attack on any faith community is an attack on the safety and dignity of all. We stand in solidarity with Mississippi’s Jewish community and with all who reject hatred and violence. Jewish life endures through resilience and unity, and we join our partners in calling for justice, safety, and shared responsibility in confronting antisemitism.

Our hearts are heavy after last night’s shooting outside the Ward House in Salt Lake City. We are deeply saddened for the families who have lost loved ones and for those who were injured, and we are holding close our friends and neighbors in the LDS community, along with all who are shaken by this tragedy. No matter the circumstances, everyone deserves to gather - and mourn - in peace. We are sending care and strength to all who are grieving.

We are heartbroken by the antisemitic attack on the Jewish community in Sydney during a first night-of-Chanukah gathering, where innocent lives were lost as families came together to celebrate.

In moments like this, clarity matters. Antisemitism must be named — and rejected — wherever it appears. And still, Chanukah reminds us that the Jewish story is one of resilience, courage, and light. Even a small flame, lit together, can push back great darkness.

Here in Utah, we are proud of our vibrant Jewish community and the many ways we will come together to celebrate Chanukah in the days ahead. Choosing to gather, to celebrate, and to care for one another is an act of strength.

May this Chanukah bring light, comfort, and hope to our community and to Jewish communities everywhere.

About the Book -

Mina: an overachieving executive in her 50s is crushing meetings and multitasking like a pro — yet she’s constantly undermined and ignored. That is, until one day having transformed into the super-heroine she always was, by a manicurist who invokes Golda Meir and other superheroes across the ages, she goes on a rescue of kidnapped children. With nothing but a Tide Pod, a thong, and a hefty dose of hot flashes, Mina, the super-heroine, goes on a mission to save kids forced to do dangerous labor, vanquish the mastermind seeking world domination, and reclaim the power she deserves. This graphic novel is equal parts irreverent and empowering. A vibrant art piece, Holy Menopause flips the script on aging, celebrating women in the great tradition of Jewish super-heroines.

The United Jewish Federation of Utah awaits with hope and profound anticipation - in just a few hours, our hostages will finally return home from Hamas captivity.
We send our heartfelt wishes for healing, strength, and love to those coming home after two years of unimaginable suffering,
and our hearts are with the families of those who will not return alive - may their memories be a blessing, and may you find comfort in the embrace of us all.

What is the Jewish Arts Festival?
It is an annual JCC event celebrating Jewish contributions to the arts and humanities. Each year highlights a different focus—dance, theatre, art, literature, music, and food.
This year, in honor of the JCC’s 100th Anniversary, we return to the beginning.
We’ll gather at the JCC’s original home, the historic Covenant House, for an unforgettable evening of food, drink, community, and music.
The evening will feature “The Jewish Roots of American Music”, presented by acclaimed pianist Joe Alterman, founder of the Atlanta Jewish Music Festival.
Join us with friends, family, and community members to celebrate this milestone event—a rededication of our history and a tribute to the JCC’s lasting legacy.

On Sunday, we came together as a community - to remember, to mourn, and to stand in solidarity.

We are deeply grateful to all who shared their voices and stories, and to everyone who joined us in honoring the memory of October 7. Your presence is a reflection of our community’s strength, compassion, and unwavering commitment: to remember the past, to support one another in the present, and to work toward a future of change.

May the light of unity continue to guide us.
May we soon see the return of all the hostages—the living to healing, and the fallen to rest.
Am Yisrael Chai. 💙🤍
