A social media post showed up on Facebook on April 12, 2025, from a man named Vince Thompson, a senior support manager at a logistics company in Pompano Beach, Florida. The post was about something his neighborhood had quietly been talking about for two months straight.

"He may not want the limelight but for the 2nd month straight has paid the rent for over 200 residents in Golden Acres, the entire projects. A lot of people shine light on the negativity. Imma see how many people share the positive things you do, fam."

Kodak Black grew up in Golden Acres. He spent his childhood in those exact same buildings he was now paying the rent for. According to his longtime attorney Bradford Cohen, the rapper had quietly written checks covering rent for the entire complex for two months in a row, no announcement, no press release, no Instagram post taking credit.

This was not new behavior.

In 2022, he covered the rent of 28 Pompano Beach families facing eviction and paid forward several months on top of it. In 2021, he spent over $12,000 on 100 air conditioning units that he gave to Golden Acres residents during a Florida heat wave. He has donated to the children of two FBI agents killed on the job. He has sent thousands of cases of water to communities in Haiti suffering from gang violence.

In 2023, he said it out loud on Instagram Live.

"You know, at the end of the day, we're all we got. This ain't nothing to do with politics, or white, black, rich or poor. It's up to us to help each other in the best way we can."

He said he wants to be remembered as a philanthropist instead of a gangster 💛
