Well, actually that’s a lie. But they certainly enjoy each other’s company and personality!

And, they’ll be saving a seat for you if you’d like to come worship with them tomorrow at the Sallisaw SDA Church. It starts at 11 am.

They’ll make sure you enjoy it…..with sidebar comments and laughter. All a good thing!

YOU SHOULD MAKE THIS CAKE AND EAT IT, TOO!

Twenty-five years ago, Melba Rogers penned this “family favorite” recipe to share with her grandchildren.

Melba is certainly a pillar for this church family. She’s the mother of church member Gretchen Rogers Dobbs and grandmother of Heather Dobbs Quintana..

Many of the old timers will remember Melba and Edsel Rogers. Sweet, beautiful people.

Fruit Cocktail Cake was something farm folks made and enjoyed because it was simple, cheap, and easy. Plus, really tasty!

Here’s a photo of a slice of the cake….made from Melba’s recipe and passed down to grandson Keith Dobbs. Keith’s wife Amanda Cook Dobbs has perfected the recipe with one additional ingredient…. a can of drained mandarin oranges.

The recipe is handwritten by Melba.

The photo of Gretchen and Melba was taken approximately Christmas 2009.

Sharing food is a sign of peace and friendship….as example, Biblical character Boaz sharing with Ruth.

As you enjoy this recipe, reflect on the scripture in Deuteronomy 14:26 (Knox): "...thou shalt feast in the presence of the Lord, thou and all thy household, making good cheer together."

The Sallisaw Church Family would like to recognize Belinda White Hixon for her sweet infusion to the congregation.

In addition to being beautiful and sweet, she adds a sweet culinary contribution to programs, potlucks, Sabbath School, and special programs…..she bakes the most amazing breads, cookies, cinnamon rolls, muffins and scones!

It's one of our favorite weekends of the year--VBS on Saturday and horseback riding on Sunday! On Saturday, lunch will be served immediately following church, and the afternoon will be filled with games, songs, and activities. Sunday we'll be taking all the little cowboys and cowgirls to ride horses at Devil's Den State Park. 🤠 Invite the kids in your life to join us for this exciting adventure!
