Well, I hate to say it, I’ve decided to leave the church, leave my wife, gonna enjoy the bar rooms, drinking, dancing and partying, and cussing like a drunk sailor on Saturday nights.
No, not really. I’m not leaving this great church. Or, leaving my wonderful wife. I’m not out there drinking and partying.
But….if you were starting to feel some kind of satisfaction thinking I had really messed up, shame on you.
There are people who get a morbid satisfaction hearing about the failures and misfortunes of other people.
I’ve often thought, if I did fail, if I ever did mess up, where would I go. Who would I turn to. The church world can sometimes be a cruel jungle rather than a safe refuge.
I’ve always done my best to be that person I’d want to find if I was in the place of the fallen. I hope you feel the same way.
Because one day it could be me, it could be you. None of us are perfect and none of us are beyond mistakes.
The true description of spirituality is found in Galatians 6:1, “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”
Let’s pray that we have plenty of oil and wine in our walk with God, that we can gracefully pour it into the wounds of the hurting and the fallen, and help bind up their wounds, and bring them to true restoration with God.
Isaiah 25:4 TLB
But to the poor, O Lord, you are a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, a shelter from merciless men who are like a driving rain that melts down an earthen wall.
