Board Member Spotlight: Greg Alcorn, Global Contact Services

Greg Alcorn is the founder and CEO of Global Contact Services, a Salisbury-based company that provides customer service systems and staffing solutions. A seasoned business executive and community advocate, Alcorn currently serves as Chair of the Rowan Economic Development Council’s Board of Directors. He is serving his second term, appointed by the City of Salisbury.

A Salisbury native, Alcorn is a graduate of Catawba College and holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He also received an honorary doctorate from Hood Theological Seminary. In addition to his business leadership, Alcorn has authored a book and developed a certification program focused on strengthening communication skills.

Together with his wife, Missie, Alcorn co-founded ApSeed, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping underserved pre-K children prepare for school. Through the program, more than 31,000 children have received an ApSeed Touchpad and guidebook designed to support early learning and literacy.

His community involvement extends across numerous organizations, including service on the boards of Hood Theological Seminary, EveryAge, the N.C. State Board of Education, Catawba College, and Families First. He is also active in Rotary, Scouting, the AAUW, NAACP, and Chief Executive Organization.

Alcorn says Rowan County’s economic progress is the result of strong collaboration and long-term vision.

“Business success drives so many other aspects of our community,” Alcorn said. "Our economic development results help sustain a wonderful place to work and live. Rowan County is that place.”

Ash Wednesday — Lent Begins

"The imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday is a reminder of our mortality, and an act of repentance. The reminder of our death is a reminder of the death of others, at a time when lives are experienced as expendable and some lives seem to be worth more than others. Our repentance in this season, the commitment to justice and the challenges of the world around us are a renewed call to action.

'Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.' This Lenten season is a time for addressing the burning of the world, and the ashes that are accumulating from destroyed lives and hopes."

-Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia A. Thompson
General Minister & President/CEO, UCC
