Dear Franklin Pres. Friends and Family,

This week, we wrap up our series, “Why We Believe What We Believe,” by considering why all of this matters. We’ve covered a lot of territory, a lot of Biblical truth, in this series; but why? Why did we take so much time talking about issues ranging from the inerrancy and infallibility of Scripture to the triune nature of God to hot-button societal topics? Ultimately, the reason why we have spent these past few months talking through all of these topics is so that we will be better equipped to fulfill the Great Commission and talk to people about Jesus and about what the Bible says effectively. So, today, by way of concluding this series, I want us to take a closer look at the Great Commission from Matthew and see exactly what Jesus is commanding there.

Dear Franklin Pres. Friends and Family,

What is God's design for gender and gender expression? Did He create gender as a binary or as a spectrum? These are questions that, in our society today, are extremely important for Christians to be able to answer. So, today, as we continue our series, "Why We Believe What We Believe," we are going to wrestle with these questions and see what God has to say in response to them.

Dear Franklin Pres. Friends and Family,

What is God's design for human s*xuality? Are s*x and s*xuality just a free-for-all, do whatever makes you happy and satisfies; or does God have a specific plan and purpose for it? Today, as we continue our series "Why We Believe What We Believe," we are going to be wrestling with these questions as we look to see what God has revealed to us in His Word.

Dear Franklin Pres. Friends and Family,

This week, as we continue our series on why we believe what we believe, we start to really wade deeply into the waters of topics that are very hot-button issues in our society today; and, first on that list is abortion. And, because it is such a hot-button issue surrounded by so much debate, I think it is important for Christians to be able to engage others in conversation on the topic, and to do it in a faithful, Biblically-sound manner. But, this is not a politically-oriented discussion on this topic; the focus of this sermon is not what either political party has to say about abortion, it is ONLY about what the Bible has to say about abortion. So, let's dive into the Scriptures together.

Dear Franklin Pres. Friends and Family,

As we continue our series on why we believe what we believe this week, we are going to be looking at why we believe that the nuclear family is the ideal family structure that God designed and intended. The nuclear family is the family that has a husband and wife who are married and living at home together, who are father and mother to their kids, who also live in the home with them, and share the responsibilities of raising the kids and supporting the family. In other words, the nuclear family is the traditional family; and it is constantly being challenged and questioned in our society today. Now, in this sermon, we are not going to get bogged down in the reasons why this is happening, why the nuclear family is under attack in our society as that is not the purpose. Instead, we are simply going to look at how the nuclear family is, in fact, God’s design and intention for families.

Dear Franklin Pres. Friends and Family,

This week, as we continue our series on why we believe what we believe, we are going to be looking at the creation story in Genesis 1. Obviously, the big debate regarding the formation of the earth, and the universe as a whole, is whether it was designed and created by God or whether it happened through a series of natural processes such as the Big Bang and evolution. So, what we are going to do today is simply look at the text of Genesis, of the account of creation given to us in God’s Word, and see what it tells us about the origin of the world. Let’s let God’s Truth stand on its own and tell us how God physically acted to create the universe and the world as we know it.

Dear Franklin Pres. Friends and Family,

Too many Christians have a lackadaisical attitude when it comes to worship. But, Scripture makes it clear that God cares about how He is worshiped…it is not a free-for-all, it is not “as long as you are worshiping, it doesn’t matter what you do." Therefore, we must be cognizant of what we are doing and saying during the worship service and what we have placed in the worship space. We need to make sure we are worshiping Him as He wants us to; in ways that are appropriate and pleasing to Him. God very clearly cares about how we worship Him; it matters to Him and so it should matter to us.

Dear Franklin Pres. Friends and Family,

The goal of this sermon series that we are currently in, “Why We Believe What We Believe,” is to give you all the knowledge and understanding to be able to answer common questions and criticisms of our faith; to help you better understand God and His Word so you will be more equipped to talk about those things in your day-to-day life. That’s why we’ve covered a wide-range of topics regarding our faith; it’s because these are the topics that are often brought up by people outside of the church. So today, with that in mind, I wanted to take some time with you to tackle what I believe to be the most widely and rampantly misunderstood and misapplied passages in all of the Bible…Matthew 7:1, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged;” or, to put it in the more widely known translation, “Judge not lest ye be judged.”

Dear Franklin Pres. Friends and Family,

This week, we are continuing our series on why we believe what we believe by tackling the question of “why does God allow so many bad things to happen.” And this is a relevant and important question for us to think about because, as we look around the world, we are inundated with images of warfare, poverty, hunger, disease, crime, natural disasters, so on and so forth. And, it’s easy to look at all of the bad things happening in the world and wonder how a loving God could allow so much destruction and devastation. But, what we are going to do today is to try to give some insight into WHY bad things happen and HOW God doesn’t actually just sit by and ALLOW them to happen, but He IS DOING something through bad things and He WILL DO something even greater in the future.

Dear Franklin Pres. Friends and Family,

How could God allow billions of people to go to hell? That is a question that critics of Christianity love to ask to try to discredit God and our belief in Him. Most critics think that this is a “gotcha” question that can’t be reasonably answered and, unfortunately, too many Christians don’t have the am******on to faithfully answer that question. However, to even ask that question is making some pretty big assumptions on the part of the critic. First, it is assuming that people are inherently good and deserving of a place in heaven and God is simply letting good people go to hell. Second, it is assuming that God’s love is His ultimate, defining characteristic rather than one of many characteristics of who He is. And, third, it’s assuming that God has simply sat idly by while people have gone to hell and hasn’t done anything about it. So, today we are going to attack each one of these assumptions individually to show how unequivocally wrong they actually are.
