A good reminder from 9 years ago:
WHAT IMPRINTS ARE WE LEAVING?
I was doing a little cleaning at the house this afternoon getting ready to host and help Josh do an end of regular season supper for his baseball team. I felt so good to have to once again clean up little finger prints and one hilarious looking face print on the glass of our front door. It felt good because it is indicative of the fact we have little kiddos around this house again. I didn't even notice when they were putting those prints there, but they were evident.

It made me wonder what imprints I am putting on those little ones that I don't even know when I am doing it. They watch us so closely, am I modeling what they need to become the men and women of God HE wants them to become? A short while later more than a dozen high school guys were in the house. I had coached many of them in middle school and one is an active member of our student ministry. I again wondered what kind of imprint (if any) I have left on their life. It once again reminded me that at all times we need to remember we are being watched and are for many the benchmark for who an adult should be. Amazing how God continues to teach.

God laid this on my heart this week when I was preparing to teach the youth last night and I felt led to share it here.

A THOUGHT FOR MY CHRISTIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS
When the church first got started, they saw 3,000 people become disciples on the first day. The event was called Pentecost. Many have wanted a repeat of such a day. It has been said, “If only God would pour out HIS spirit in that way again”, “If only we had a preacher who could preach in power like Peter did”.

There are problems with BOTH of those statements. First of all, God DOES still pour out HIS spirit on men and women. Secondly, it is often overlooked that BEFORE Peter preached, that he and the other disciples (120) spent 10 days in prayer. They were in agreement in asking for God’s power to come upon them and for God to use them. When HE did pour out HIS power, they received the power. Finally, we are told that those followers were proclaiming God in the power of the Holy Spirit again, BEFORE Peter preached.

People of God. If we want Pentecost style results from our ministries we need to spend time in prayer, DEVOTED, EXTENDED TIME! We have to be in agreement on wanting to be disciples who live out Jesus. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to work through us. We finally need to proclaim HIS message anywhere and everywhere we can so that when the preaching starts, the people are ready to hear and respond.

An annual post:
Tough day for many today. Today is a day that some love, plan for and really enjoy. For many others however, Valentines day is a day of sadness and hurt. If you have a romantic someone in your life and use this day as another opportunity to tell them how you feel about them, that is fine. I encourage you to think however about those who don't currently have such a relationship.

I am not discouraging participation in Valentine's Day. Instead I'm encouraging you to help find ways to lessen the pain of this day, and to possibly even make it special for someone. There are those who are alone for the first time in a while today because they are recently widowed, there was a breakup, or illness has taken their loved one away. There are others that this is just another year without one to celebrate the commercially designated "Day of love" with. If you know of someone in this situation, why not send them a message, call them, drop off a small gift, pray for them or just find some way to tell them they are loved and not forgotten.

I know that I am blessed with a great marriage, loving family and great friends. I know that there are others who are not in the same boat. Out of gratitude, not pity, I think it is important to remember those who may be lonely and hurting, not just today but every day. Today however, would be a good day to start that caring. I have prayed for some folks today, gonna reach out to some others. My prayer is that instead of feeling lonely, worthless and unloveable that people will emerge from this day knowing that they are worthwhile, loved and certainly not alone.

If you are one of those struggling with those negative feelings, first of all, remember you ARE loved with an everlasting love. Secondly, why not reach out and share love with someone else. It is amazing how much residual love remains with you when you allow God's love to flow through you to others.
Happy Show Some Love Day!
