CHANGE OF PLANS!!!

It looks like the rainy forecast isn't budging for Sunday morning!

While we're disappointed that we won't be able to gather outdoors, everyone's safety and comfort come first. Because of the expected weather, our Outdoor Worship Service will be moved back inside to the sanctuary.

The good news? We’ll still enjoy fellowship together and gather for our potluck meal at the church following the service. 🍽️ please bring a dish to pass.

See you 10am Sunday morning at the church!!

Members of the Social Justice League participated in the Silence the Violence rally in Detroit on Saturday. Powerful speeches were given on the horrible effects of gun violence, the work that is being done in our communities to prevent it, and ways that people can make change!

In recognition of Gun Violence Awareness Month, the Social Justice League of Saline First United Methodist Church invites everyone to take the Gun Safety Pledge. We have a pledge for adults and a separate one for children/youth. There are two options for taking the pledge. You can either reply PLEDGED in the comments, or come to SFUMC (1200 N. Ann Arbor St., Saline, MI (https://www.google.com/maps/search/1200+N.+Ann+Arbor+St.,+Saline,+MI?entry=gmail&source=g).) on June 17th (12pm - 1pm or 6pm- 8pm) and add your name to our growing display of pledges. For every pledge that we get this month (June 2026), we will place an orange pinwheel in the church lawn, in honor of your commitment to gun safety! Orange is the official color for GVA month.

Gun Safety Pledge for Adults

I pledge to:
1. Support the safe storage of guns as detailed below, whether I am a gun owner or not.
2. Secure all guns in my home or vehicle in a locked box, or store them unloaded and secured with a locking device, whenever a minor is or is likely to be present.
3. Help prevent minors from accessing guns without adult supervision.
4. Ask if guns are properly secured in homes where my minor child goes to visit.

Gun Safety Pledge for Children/Youth

I pledge to:
1. Never handle guns without permission from an adult.
2. Never go snooping or allow my friends to go snooping for guns in someone’s house.
3. Never bring a gun to school.

The Social Justice League of Saline First United Methodist Church is leading our recognition of June as Gun Violence Awareness Month. We invite you to share a photo of yourself wearing orange or holding something orange or simply post a picture of something orange.

Why orange? It was the color chosen by the friends of Hadiya Pendleton to honor her memory after she was shot and killed at age 15, just one week after performing in a presidential inauguration parade. Orange is also the color hunters wear to protect themselves from being shot.

Hadiya’s death inspired the national “Wear Orange” movement each June, remembering her life and the 130 lives lost in gun related deaths every day in the U.S., and the 200 more injured.

Tell us your “why” for wearing orange — or share why preventing gun violence matters to you.
