The Social Justice League of Saline First United Methodist Church is leading our recognition of June as Gun Violence Awareness Month. We invite you to share a photo of yourself wearing orange or holding something orange or simply post a picture of something orange.
Why orange? It was the color chosen by the friends of Hadiya Pendleton to honor her memory after she was shot and killed at age 15, just one week after performing in a presidential inauguration parade. Orange is also the color hunters wear to protect themselves from being shot.
Hadiya’s death inspired the national “Wear Orange” movement each June, remembering her life and the 130 lives lost in gun related deaths every day in the U.S., and the 200 more injured.
Tell us your “why” for wearing orange — or share why preventing gun violence matters to you.
