Over the weekend, 127 Place and Christiansburg Mennonite Fellowship partnered to deliver a bunk bed for a mother who is taking in two foster teenagers in Christiansburg. This was a high urgency request meaning it needed to be met in 72 hours

This evening 127 Place responded to two requests. The first was Request 272379. This request was posted by Roanoke City DSS for a single bed. The social worker wrote "The child will hopefully be returning to their home soon and does not have a bed." This was a normal request that needed to be met in 7 to 12 days.

The next one is Request 273707. This is a critical request that needs to be met in 24 hours submitted by Roanoke County DSS. This mother is working to get her child back from foster care, but is facing eviction. 127 Place's response was small because we want to invite churches to respond as well. However, we will respond again within 24 hours.

127 Place is thankful today for our partnership with The Rail Yard Dawgs! Their donation of $2,500 will allow us to keep responding to CarePortal Roanoke Valley requests supporting vulnerable children and families! We just responded to Request 269947. A single working kinship caregiver just took in three children to keep them out of foster care. They need clothing! Thank you Rail Yard Dawgs for this family as well as those to come that your donation will support!

We need your help! 💔

127 Place needs to find a house for a family with six children. This family was homeless at the beginning of September. We picked them up off a baseball field with all of their belongings. Both parents now have jobs, and their children are in school! They have made tremendous progress in a short time, but they found out today that the housing they had been waiting for may not be available for a year.

Because they have six children, they have to rent two motel rooms at $887 per week. Of course, this is unsustainable. If you have a rental property or know of one, please let us know! [email protected]

Have you noticed the number of kids in Virginia's foster care system is going up?

The latest reports tell us there are currently 5,711 children and youth in foster care.

The common need for all of these youth is a safe, stable, loving family to connect to during the transitions. Across the state there is HUGE need for foster families and respite families to help these kids navigate through their journey.

Have you noticed the number of kids in Virginia's foster care system is going up?

The latest reports tell us there are currently 5,711 children and youth in foster care.

This includes 4,849 children and youth between birth and age 18 plus the 862 young adults that remain connected to the foster care system through independent living programs.

All of these young people are on a journey to permanency and belonging. Some will return home, some will live with relatives or be adopted. Others may be in foster care until they age out and struggle to find belonging on their own.

The common need for all of these youth is a safe, stable, loving family to connect to during the transitions. Across the state there is HUGE need for foster families and respite families to help these kids navigate through their journey.

Have you considered exploring how you can be involved? We'd love to help you start on your journey to fostering. Let us hear from you at [email protected] or send us a DM.

At the beginning of the month, 127 Place got a call about a homeless family with six children. We found them on an open baseball field with all of their belongings. About an hour before the skies opened up with a deluge, they were safe in a couple motel rooms.

If you would like to help keep them housed while they find employment, that would be awesome! You can donate here: www.127place.org Click on the donate button, choose "Most Needed," Then add a comment: "Family with six children."

Mom starts her new job tomorrow. They have been busy getting their kids into school, finding jobs, getting set up with DSS, and so on. The kids love Salem schools.

Because there are so many children, they have to have two rooms, which makes a week's rent $880. Several CarePortal churches have helped with the rent so far, but we could sure use some help from the community! Thanks for anything you can do!

The accompanying picture is of clothing and other items given to the two elementary children by their school! These are parents who love their children and are trying to give them a better life than the one they left behind!

Amazing news that just lifted my spirits. 🧡

We were talking to a mother 127 Place has served for years, and she shared some great news!! About a year and a half ago, she was in a traffic accident in another state. She got into all sorts of trouble because, I believe, the trooper did not understand what a trauma response looks like in a former foster kid. After at least four court appearances where no evidence was presented against her (and the trooper didn't show up) and where the system tried to bully her into accepting a "deal," finally the charges were dropped!!! I was elated!

This same mother made her first donation to 127 Place this month as well. Of course, the thrill is not in the value of the money; the thrill is in the progress that she is making getting to the place where she can and wants to get on the helper side of the relationship!
