Rocky Mount Baptist Church - The Church at Lake Harding

We are a church that loves all people with a mission of leading hearts to Jesus. We have built a strong family unit through our members and welcome anyone seeking the Lord. Our Sunday School classes begin at 10:30 am eastern standard time with the service directly afterward. We also have an evening service at 6:00 pm eastern standard time. On Wednesdays, choir practice begins at 6:00 pm eastern st

andard time with a church service immediately following. "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

I learned many things from listening to what everyone shared last night at church. Below is some info to help you prepare for next Wednesday night as we continue to look at favoritism in James 2:1-4.

Favoritism / προσωποληψία: an idiom, that literally means, to accept a face; to make unjust distinctions between people by treating one person better than another.

Favoritism is judging others by external appearances alone. The action described by this word is always evil in Scripture.

Favoritism is only used four times in the New Testament: Romans 2:11, Ephesians 6:9, Colossians 3:25, James 2:1.

We can't find peace and happiness by seeking peace and happiness. Peace and happiness are side effects, the result, or the fruit of following Christ. He is the only One who can bring peace and happiness into our lives. I pray that we will all seek Christ today, for He alone provides what we truly need.

This week we will be looking at James 1:11, 21.

For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

Awesome discussion last night! I'm so proud of all of you and the way you've been participating in sharing what the Lord is teaching you, and for encouraging one another.

Next Wednesday we'll look at James 1:22-25. We'll connect the idea of the mirror in James to the idea of repentance in Jeremiah 15:19. I can't wait to hear what the Holy Spirit will reveal to each of you.
