Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Salem

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Salem We welcome you! Sunday Service offered online and in-person Sundays at 10:30 am. Child care for little ones is available.

Children's Religious Exploration classes are offered at the same time as the service. There is time for fellowship and coffee after the service. You are invited to explore our principles and purposes while we honor your freedom of conscience. Our congregation celebrates the presence and participation of all, regardless of spiritual beliefs, age, gender, abilities, ethnicity, race, sexual orientati

on, or gender identity. The Purposes and Principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association:

We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote:

*The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
*Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
*Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
*A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
*The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
*The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
*Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. The living tradition that we share draws from many sources:

*Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder,
affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces that create and uphold life;
*Words and deeds of prophetic women and men which challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love;
*Wisdom from the world's religions which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life;
*Jewish and Christian teachings which call us to respond to God's love by loving our neighbors as ourselves;
*Humanist teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science and warn us against idolatries of the mind and spirit.
*Spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. Content Moderation Disclaimer:

We all have come to UUCS in part because we understand the need of nurturing our souls through connections with one another, through gathering together and feeling a sense of community, of belonging. Have you ever thought of getting together as a type of art form? Well, author Priya Parker has in her book: The Art of Gathering, How we meet and why it matters. If you are interested in reading and discussing this book and how we might nurture some of its ideas in the UUCS community, please join Rev. Monica and others on May 6 and May 27 via zoom 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Let us know your interest through contacting [email protected] and a zoom link will be sent to you. You can also talk to Rev. Monica or Sara Pickett if you have any questions. One place to purchase the book is through Book Bin. We hope you will join us.

Trillium Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans plans to sponsor an introduction to paganism series of workshop classes beginning on May 17, 2026. The initial session will take place during the monthly TCUUPS meeting at 2 pm in the Fellowship Hall.
These sessions are designed to offer a basic understanding of paganism in general, so that the participants can find the path to pagan, nature-based and earth-centered spirituality that best fits their heart and ideals. In paganism, each person determines their way of honoring their beliefs. These sessions will help to find that path, which will be different for each person. There are many paths in paganism and no one is the only, correct, one. Each session will take between two and three hours, depending on the subjects, and the series will take one year to complete. We are asking for $60.00 donation to cover materials and expenses. No one will be turned away for lack of funds and there may be alternative ways to meet the expenses.

If you are interested please contact Jen Baye, Steward of TCUUPS, at [email protected] for details, answers to questions, and to register.

All, Our church cannot thrive without all the hours volunteers donate in countless projects to maintain the church and grounds. A recent example occurred on 4/11 when volunteers came out to pull weeds, spruce up the Welcome Garden, clean gutters, and move many loads of bark dust and spread them around the church borders and beds. The above pictures of the before and after, of the bark dust pile show we made a good dent in the pile in spite of less than perfect weather. More help is needed to finish the task and others to enhance the experience we all enjoy coming to UUCS to recharge our spirits and find enrichment within our community.

The landscape team will be meeting on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month from 9AM to noon to do all we can to maintain and improve our community home and sanctuary. Please come out and lend a hand.
With your help, it will always be a special place to walk around the church and Bateman Woods and appreciate all that is UUCS!
