Yesterday, the world lost a little bit of its sparkle.
Dolly Parton will be remembered for the songs she wrote, the stages she filled, her humor, her rhinestones, and a career that touched generations. But she also leaves behind something much bigger than all of that: an incredible example of what it can look like to use your life to care for other people.
Dolly was open about her faith, but she often seemed most interested in living it. She gave generously, put books into the hands of millions of children, invested in the community that raised her, helped families after disasters, supported medical research, and quietly did far more good than most of us will probably ever know about.
She also had a rare ability to make room for people. People from different generations, backgrounds, beliefs and identities could all find something to love about Dolly. In a world that gives us plenty of reasons to divide ourselves, she reminded us that kindness can still bring people together.
Maybe there is something the church can learn from a life like that.
Love people. Be generous with what you have. Remember where you came from. Make room at the table. Don't take yourself too seriously. And leave things a little better than you found them.
Dolly once said, “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”
She certainly did.
Today, we give thanks for a life that brought a whole lot of joy, generosity, laughter and love into this world.
And maybe the best way to honor a life like hers is to offer a little more of those things ourselves.
Rest in peace, Dolly. We will always love you.

What's your favorite Dolly song, quote, story or memory?

What started in the back of our parking lot is becoming part of something much bigger.
We're so excited to celebrate our own Rachel Alexander, whose work creating a Little Habitat at SalemFirst Presbyterian Church has been featured by Marion Soil and Water Conservation District. Rachel's vision has transformed a small corner of our property into a welcoming space for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife, reminding us that caring for creation often begins with small, intentional acts.
Take a few minutes to read the story and learn more about the Little Habitat Project!

Saturday was such a fun day at Hoopla!
In less than four hours, we gave away more than 500 bottles of water, over 300 Liquid IV packets, and more than 100 protein bars.
We loved getting to be a small part of the weekend by helping people cool off, recharge, and take a quick break before heading back to the craziness. Sometimes the simplest acts of hospitality can make the biggest difference.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our water station and to all of the volunteers who helped make it happen. We had a blast and are already looking forward to next year!

Today marks 250 years since the Declaration of Independence.
Our history is filled with extraordinary courage and extraordinary contradiction. The same nation that declared all people are created equal has also been shaped by slavery, the displacement of Indigenous peoples, discrimination, exclusion, and countless struggles for civil rights.
Yet, throughout these 250 years, there have always been people who refused to believe injustice should have the final word. Abolitionists. Suffragists. Labor organizers. Civil rights leaders. Neighbors who chose compassion over fear. Communities that kept believing a better future was possible.
As followers of Christ, we remember that loving our neighbors and seeking justice are not competing values with loving our country. In fact, the deepest kind of love tells the truth, seeks healing, and works toward a future where every person is treated with the dignity they were created to have.
Today, we celebrate not perfection, but possibility. We give thanks for those who have bent the arc of our nation toward justice, and we recommit ourselves to continuing that work.
May the next 250 years bring us closer to the promise of liberty and justice for all.
