We derived this mission statement from the two “Greats”.
“‘Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?’ Jesus replied, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the profits are based on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:36–40, NLT)
“Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18–20, NLT)
Jesus always heard and obeyed His Father. We are discipling people to do likewise.
John 13:34–35: “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples”
As we love Jesus, we follow His commands. As we obey him through expressing His love to others, the invisible God becomes visible.
We believe that relationships are the bridges over which values are transferred.
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.“ Because of our love for God and others, we reach out, building bridges of relationship. No matter where you are or who you are with, it is through these caring relationships that we can reach the lost and build the saved.
“Jesus travel through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” (Matthew 9:35–38, NLT)
“If you love me, obey my commandments.” (John 14:15, NLT)
We use small groups as our primary way of building relationships for the purpose of making disciples. However, we cannot stay isolated in our groups. We must go out into the harvest field, reaching out to those who do not know the Lord.
Our goals keep us focused on our mission, motive, and method.
We want every disable to be a disciple-maker, every home to be a training center, every small group to be a missions organization. Through these organized effort’s, we prepare our people to be standard-bearers for Christ, and to be leaders within their individual spheres of influence. Our hope is to equip hundreds, to train thousands, to reach millions, to affect billions.
In 1959, a church in Anchorage, Alaska, was founded by a man named Dick Benjamin. It was called Abbott Loop Christian Center. Through the years, that church has planted many other churches all over the world. One of those outreach churches was called C-Street Christian Center, planted in downtown Anchorage. A few years later, a team was sent out from C-Street to start a church in Colorado Springs – Colorado Springs Christian Center. Then still later, a team was sent out from Colorado to plant Alliance Christian Center in Alliance, Ohio. Our church was sent out from Alliance Christian Center in December of 1990. Since then we’ve grown from a small, home-based church with a membership of ten to our present size with locations: Lisbon, Wellsville, and Salem. In 2020, Crossroads Ministries fellowship merged with Hope Christian Fellowship and became the location in Salem, OH.
