2 Chronicles 12:14 (KJV)
14 And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the Lord.

Evil comes easy when we fail to prepare our hearts to seek God. Rehoboam had been made king after the death of Solomon. But Rehoboam chose not to seek the Lord. He chose to listen to the wrong people and failed to follow the instruction of the Lord God. And evil came calling! Evil is real in our world just as it was in the days of Rehoboam. People chose to listen to the wrong advice. We often hear what we want to hear and do what we want to do without seeking the Lord. We are living in difficult days because of evil within our world. What can we learn from this verse in God’s Word?

We must understand that evil comes because we fail to prepare our hearts to seek God. Evil is ever present. God is ever present. And we will follow one or the other. However, we must prepare to seek God. Doing evil comes so easy. Our nature is to do evil. We learn to do what is right. When we fail to seek and prepare our hearts to God, we can be assured that evil is coming. To see God, we must be intentional. To seek God is a deliberate choice or action. Seeking God is not an automatic action. God’s Holy Spirit moves upon our heart with conviction and we must respond. God allows us to know our temptations and God allows a way of escape. We must choose to seek God and follow Him.

How often do we allow evil to creep in? Evil can begin with our bad attitude. Evil can be the result of our anger. Whatever the evil reflects our failure to prepare our heart to seek God. We often get complacent in life. In our complacency we neglect our spiritual life. We don’t have time to read and study the Word of God. We fail to pray and seek God’s direction. And evil sees an open door into our heart. We must prepare our heart to seek the Lord.

In order to avoid evil in our life, we must make a daily commitment to seek God. It’s easy to fall into bad habits. It’s easy to do nothing. But when we do nothing, evil abounds. We must prepare our heart to seek God and we seek Him while He may be found. Rehoboam allowed evil to overtake his life because he failed to seek God with his whole heart. And the same thing can happen to us! So, prepare your heart to seek the Lord God.

I have prayed for you this morning. I pray that your heart is prepared to seek the Lord.

Proverbs 16:20 (KJV)
20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.

Abraham Lincoln said, “Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be”. Now that has become the problem for many people in life. They have not made up their minds, or they have not made the most important decision in life. Happiness and contentment are the result of our attitude about life. Some can find happiness in the smallest of things while others are never content with anything. Real happiness in life comes from a personal relationship with God. God made us and knew the inmost part of our being. God put within each of us the ability to be happy but many have never found that ability. Here are some ideas that might help your attitude and in so doing might bring you some happiness.

Learn to trust God. Why must I trust God to be happy? Because in trusting God we learn to accept the things that happen in our life. Trust allows us to accept the difficult things in life and still believe that things can get better. God has not promised us that things would always run smoothly. However, God did promise to be with us in all things. That’s where our trust in Him comes in. Proverbs 3 instructs us to “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths. An attitude of happiness begins with our trusting God in all things.

Learn to live right. What does that mean? If you plant a bad attitude, you will surly reap sorrow. Paul said, ‘Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap”. If you are sowing the bad seeds of life, then you will miss the blessing of happiness. Happiness comes in doing the right things all the time. When we fail to do what is right then we open the door to difficulties. Doing right should come naturally to the Child of God. We have been changed and we are a new person in Christ. The old attitude is gone, and we have a new attitude to do the right things all the time.

Learn to be content. This is probably the most difficult of all things to be happy. Too often we build our lives on the things we have or the things we want. Some things we will never have. Some things we just don’t need. The writer of Hebrews said, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have”. Just because someone else has it doesn’t mean you need it too. Our happiness is not built on what others have. Paul made this statement; “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content”. If you want to be happy learn to get along with what you have and allow God to give the increase, you desire. Learn to be content while God is at work in your life.

I have prayed for you this morning. I pray that we find happiness and peace in our Lord.

Philippians 2:5-11 (KJV)
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

In 1917 Thomas O. Chisholm wrote these words in a hymn that reflects what Paul had written. The lyrics are, “Living for Jesus a life that is true, striving to please Him in all that I do, yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free, this is the pathway of blessing for me”. Living for Jesus is allowing the mind of Christ to be in us. We learn to live as Jesus lived. In living for Jesus, we take on the same attitude and humility that Jesus had as He took on the form of servant. Jesus said of His followers, “He who would be great, let him be a servant” (Matthew 23:11). Living for Jesus means we are living a transformed life. Romans 12:2 tells us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will”. In Christ our mind is transformed and we begin to think and act as Christ would.

To allow the mind of Christ to be in us reflects our personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We are in Christ and Christ is in us as a believer. We have a daily dependence on Jesus for direction, strength, purpose and fellowship. We spend time with Jesus in prayer and the Word of God. We learn to live our life in the grace and mercy of God that is in Jesus. The mercy and grace of God is new each day (Lamentations 3:23). Living our life for Christ means that our mind is set upon the authority of Jesus in our life. We seek Him in all that we do. We want our choices to be in His will. To live for Christ and have the mind of Christ means that we produce the “Fruit of the Spirit” in our lives (Galatians 5:22-23).

So, living the life of Christ and having the mind of Christ is reflected in our love, compassion, forgiveness and obedience. We seek to be like Him and in Him in all that we do. We overcome life challenges just as Jesus did. We pray and seek the Father and we do as we are directed. We seek to do the will of God and not our own. To live for Jesus means that we live for Jesus. In all that we do!

I have prayed for you this morning. I pray that each of us will live our life and let the mind of Christ be in all that we do.

Judges 6:12-14 (KJV)
12 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. 13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. 14 And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?

Have you heard the phrase, “The power of one”? Gideon was one man that God chose to make a difference. Gideon was one man who had fear and doubt but he was a man God chose to do remarkable things. God would use one man to lead a small band of men to defeat the enemy of God and bring deliverance to a nation. The power of one can and will make a difference.

A look through the Word of God allows us to see how God used one man to make a difference in so many different areas. Yes, by one man sin entered into the world. But, by one man salvation was brought to all mankind. But also think of all the others God called to do great things. Noah was called to build a great boat. Jonah was called to go and preach to a city that was filled with evil. Amos, a sheep herder, was called to be a prophet. The list goes on and on of the individuals God called to make a difference. There is power in one!

Each of us can become the “One” God uses to do great things. When God calls us, and we become willing to be used, God will equip us for the calling. There is nothing God can’t do. God can take each of us in our weakness and make us strong. Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). You are the one God is calling. Don’t give up. Be ready. And see what God is about to do with “The power of one”. And you are the one!

I have prayed for you this morning. I pray that we each know that we can be “The power of one”.

Psalm 34:17-19 (KJV)
17 The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 8 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

Life is filled with difficult times. We can be up one day and down the next. Sometimes it’s like getting out of the frying pan and into the fire. And we wonder if it will ever end! So, we cry to the Lord and He delivers us out of all our troubles. Does God really do that? Then why am I still struggling? Why hasn’t God done something?

The answer is that God is a work in our life. The Lord is near to those who are broken in heart. God knows just where we are in life. There is nothing in our life that has surprised God. And God is ready to meet our need. But there are times that our life must be refined. There are times when our troubles are designed by God to make us stronger in our faith. God didn’t keep Job from facing trouble, but God saw him through the trouble and brought Job out stronger. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but God does bring them out.

So how is God helping me through my difficulty? First, God hears your cry. Are you crying out to God in faith or are you crying out in a complaint? The cry of faith goes a long way with God. Do you believe God can work out your problem? Are you willing to trust God to deliver you? God does hear your cry. Second, don’t give up on God. Allow God to work in your life. Be willing to wait on God. Don’t rush God. God’s time and our time are never the same. So, we cry and we wait. God is at work. Third, know your heart. Have you confessed your doubts and fears? Do you really believe that God is at work in your life? God is near the broken heart. So, keep the faith.

I have prayed for you this morning. I pray that as you cry out to God you know and have the assurance that God hears your cry.

Romans 8:29 (KJV)
We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called In to his purpose.

In 1971the Oak Ridge Boys recorded a song entitle, “I know” and it was a hit. The chorus has these lines, “I know, I know, there's no doubt about it He lives in my heart and I'm gonna shout it. I know, I know my sins are forgiven And I'm on my way to a place that's called Heaven”. With those lyrics in mind, here are some things that we as the Children of God know. We can know that we have been forgiven and that we are on our way to Heaven, but there are so many other things that we can and do know. It’s those things that encourage us in our daily walk with God. And we should be like Enoch and walk daily with God for we never know when God will say, “Come home with me for all things are prepared”. I get excited about the things that “I know” God has for me. So, let’s think about what we really know!

It was Job who said, “I know that my redeemer lives” (Job 19:25). We know without a doubt that our redeemer lives because we celebrate the fact that Jesus came forth from the grave three days after He died on the cross for my sins. Yes, I know that my redeemer lives and that He paid the price for my salvation. I have no doubt that He is coming again and I will meet Him face to face. What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see, because “I know, I know that my redeemer lives and I shall live also.

I know that God has a plan for my life. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. I know that God has a plan, and has had a plan for my life. I know that I have often failed to follow God’s plan but that does not change His plan. His plan for me is to do well and have hope for the future. My future is not here but it is there where God reigns upon the throne and knows my every need. I know that God has a plan for each of us. His first plan is for us to be saved and be obedient to His plan for our life. Yes, I know, I know that God has a plan for me and He has a plan for you.

I know that my God shall supply my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). I may not get all the things I want but if I want the things of God and those things are needful then I know that my God will supply them. I know that my God can and will meet all my needs. His Word has promised this, and His word has never failed. I may not get what I need when I think that I need it, but God supplies it right on time in His time frame. Yes, I know, I know that my God shall supply all my needs.

I know that my God knows all about me. Psalm 139:2-5 tells us, “Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. 3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. 5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me”. My God knows where I am, what I’m doing, what I’m thinking, even before I think it, and it’s just too wonderful for me to understand but I know that my God knows all about me. When my day is difficult and I think I can’t go on, my God know my trouble, and He is ready to help me. I am thankful that I know, I know that My God knows all about me and He still loves and cares for me.

Yes, I know and there’s no doubt about it. I know God lives in my heart. I know that I am blessed of God daily. I know that one day God will come for me. I know that I want to see you in Heaven where God will take me. I know that God can and will change our lives if we will allow Him to come into our lives. So, I know what He can and will do, question is, “Do You”?

I have prayed for you this morning. I pray that you know that you know that you know Him.
