What does it mean to be "a sanctuary for all people"?

For us, it means striving to be a place where people can ask questions, bring their doubts, share their joys, carry their burdens, and know they will be met with kindness.

We won't always get it right.

But we believe every person is worthy of respect, dignity, and care.

And we believe the church is at its best when people feel welcomed rather than judged.

That is the kind of community we are striving to be.

Looking for a church home can feel intimidating.

Especially if you’ve ever felt out of place, overlooked, or unsure whether you’d belong.

At Salem Presbyterian, we’re a small congregation with a quiet, traditional style of worship: hymns, prayer, scripture, and shared liturgy.

You don’t have to know all the words or participate in any particular way. You’re welcome to simply come, listen, reflect, and join in as you’re comfortable.

We’d be glad to welcome you.

Jesus tells us to love our neighbors.

Not just the ones who think like us.
Not just the ones who look like us.
Not just the ones who live like us.
Not just the ones who agree with us.

No exceptions.

At Salem Presbyterian, we strive to be a sanctuary for all people, a place where people feel safe, welcomed, and treated with kindness, respect, and dignity.

Tomorrow is Pentecost, a day the church remembers the coming of the Holy Spirit and the beginning of the Church’s story.

In our tradition, we mark the day with the color red, shared prayers and readings, hymns, and gathering together in worship.

If you’d like, wear red and join us tomorrow morning.

We’re a small church… which means you’ll likely be noticed.

And we’ll probably say hello.

But there’s no pressure to have a conversation, share your story, or be anything other than yourself.

You can come in, find a seat, and just take it all in.

We’re simply glad you’re here.

At Salem Presbyterian, we’re part of something called the Matthew 25 movement.

It comes from a passage where Jesus talks about caring for people who are hungry, struggling, or often unseen—and says that when we care for them, we are, in a real way, caring for him.

For us, that means trying (imperfectly) to:
• welcome people as they are
• pay attention to needs in our community
• live our faith in everyday, practical ways

We’re still learning what that looks like.

What does caring for others look like in your life right now?

Sometimes the hardest part of visiting a church isn’t walking in…

it’s wondering what will be expected once you do.

At Salem Presbyterian, our service has a gentle rhythm — we sing hymns, share readings together, and hear a message.

You’re welcome to join in… or simply listen and take it all in.

We’re a small group, so you’ll likely be greeted.
But there’s no pressure to participate in any particular way.

Come as you are, and settle in however feels right to you.

For a lot of people, it is.

Maybe it’s been a long time.
Maybe something didn’t sit right.
Maybe you’re not sure what you believe anymore.

You’re not the only one who’s felt that way.

There’s space for questions.
There’s space for uncertainty.
There’s space for you.

If you’ve ever felt judged, overlooked, or out of place in a church…
we want you to know this:

You’ll be welcomed here.

Not evaluated. Not expected to say or do anything. Just welcomed.

We will say hello. We may even be a little enthusiastic.

But underneath it all is something simple:
kindness, respect, and a place to belong.
