“The Promise of His Coming”
Part - 1 2 Peter 3:1-8
January 6 – January 10, 2025
FRIDAY– 2 Peter 3:4: “and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” The scoffers deny judgment day will come and that they will give account of their words and deeds. They ask the question where rather than when. They doubt the truthfulness of God’s written and spoken Word. Like the Jewish people in the days before the exile mockingly asked, “Where is the word of the Lord? Let it now be fulfilled!” (Jeremiah 17:15). They leave out any mention of the birth, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus and say everything goes on as normal since creation. They suggest that the person and work of Christ are without any validity and have no bearing on the natural order of events and death and dying. But this is exactly the point: the coming of Christ has changed everything and His eventual return will bring about the consummation. Jesus will return. (Meditate, Apply & Pray) Think of how Satan would have everyone buy into this lie that everything remains the same without any consequences. Jesus, thank You for Your life and death and promise to return and make all things new.

“The Promise of His Coming”
Part - 1 2 Peter 3:1-8
January 6 – January 10, 2025
THURSDAY – 2 Peter 3:3-4: “knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” The expression last days is common in the New Testament and unnecessarily an item of confusion and a point of criticism. The phrase appears in Hebrews 1:2 where the writer notes that God has spoken through His Son in these last days. Peter said in 1 Peter 1:20 of Jesus that He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last days for you. The last days began with the incarnation of Jesus Christ and will continue until His Second Coming and the culmination of human history. Mockers have and will characterize every future period of church history. This is theologically similar to 1 John 2:18. “Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.” (Meditate, Apply & Pray) Meditate on the significance of living in the last days. Are you living in a way that Jesus would approve of if He were to return today? Lord Jesus, help me to not only think about Your return but to live pleasing you.
