As we mark the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, we invite our community to stand together in honoring the victims, first responders, military members, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus shows us that Christian community calls for both truth and love. When relationships are wounded, He asks us to seek reconciliation with humility, patience, and a genuine desire to restore what has been broken.
He also reminds us of the power of praying together. Whenever we gather in His name, Christ is present among us, guiding our efforts toward unity and peace.

🙏 Lord, help us seek reconciliation with humility, pray together in faith, and recognize Your presence in our midst.

St. Augustine of Hippo is one of the greatest theologians and spiritual writers in the history of the Church. His remarkable journey from restless seeker to saint and bishop has inspired Christians for centuries.

Born in Tagaste, North Africa, in 354 A.D., Augustine possessed an exceptional intellect from an early age. His mother, St. Monica, was a faithful Christian who prayed constantly for her son’s conversion. His father was a pagan who converted to Christianity shortly before his death. Augustine pursued studies in rhetoric and established a successful academic career, but his search for truth led him through various secular philosophies that left him disappointed, and he turned to worldly pleasures.

For many years, Augustine remained distant from the Faith of his childhood. Yet God continued to work in his life through his mother’s prayers and the influence of holy Christians. While living in Milan, he met St. Ambrose, Bishop of Milan, whose wisdom helped him see Christianity in a new light. In 386, he experienced a profound conversion and surrendered his life to God. Ambrose baptized him during the Easter Vigil of 387.

After returning to North Africa, Augustine founded a religious community devoted to prayer and study. Initially hesitant to enter the priesthood, he was encouraged by friends and ordained a priest. Later, he became Bishop of Hippo. For more than three decades, he preached eloquently, cared for his people, and defended the Church against heresies and divisions.

Augustine’s writings transformed Christian thought. His Confessions, an account of his conversion, remains one of the most celebrated spiritual autobiographies ever written. His book City of God offers a powerful Christian vision of history and society. His reflections on grace, free will, Scripture, and the human heart continue to influence theology today.

St. Augustine died in 430, as invading Vandals besieged Hippo. Declared a Doctor of the Church in 1298, he remains a towering witness to the truth that every human heart finds its rest in God.

Nineveh PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Lord of mercy and justice,

We come before You humbled and repentant, mindful of the sins that wound our world and cry out to heaven. Like the people of Nineveh, we acknowledge our need for Your mercy. We confess that our society has turned away from Your law, that we have tolerated evil, and that the innocent have suffered because of our sins.

Have mercy on us, O Lord.

Forgive the sins of our nation and of the whole world. Forgive the sins committed against the vulnerable, especially against children. Bring to light what is hidden in darkness, break the power of evil, and restore justice where it has been denied.

With contrite hearts we offer this day of prayer and fasting in reparation for the grave sins of our time and in humble petition for Your mercy. Heal those who have been wounded. Comfort those who have suffered injustice. Protect the innocent and defend the weak.

Turn hearts away from sin and back to Your truth. Grant the grace of repentance to those who have done evil, that they may turn from darkness and seek Your mercy. Purify Your Church, renew our hearts, and strengthen all who seek to live in fidelity to Your law.

Lord, do not deal with us according to our sins, but according to the greatness of Your mercy. Look upon our prayer and fasting with compassion, and in Your mercy bring healing, purification, and renewal to our world.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
