Clavers on the Move! Congratulations to our Brother, Ansel Augustine, D.Min.

Washington, D.C.—Ansel Joseph Augustine, D.Min., has been appointed Assistant Director of the Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. In this capacity, Dr. Augustine will staff the Bishops’ Subcommittee on African American Affairs, and assist the Secretariat’s efforts to promote intercultural competence in ministry and the pastoral care of many diverse Catholic communities. He will join the Bishop’s Conference starting April 2, 2024.

Up until now, Dr. Augustine has been the Director of the Office of Black Catholic Ministries for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, where previously he served also as the Associate Director/Coordinator of Black Youth & Young Adult Ministry for the CYO Youth & Young Adult Ministry Office. He also is the former Executive Director of Cultural Diversity and Outreach for the Archdiocese of Washington.

We have received word of Deacon Lionel Roberts' passing on January 31, 2024. He was born on February 28, 1926 and was ordained Deacon in the Diocese of Brooklyn, New York, in 1977. He came to Blessed Trinity parish in 1984. He was the oldest deacon with faculties in the Diocese, ordained for 47 years.

As the first Director of Black Catholic Ministries in the Diocese of St. Petersburg Deacon Roberts championed countless community-building projects and services striving for upward mobility in the Black Community for

Deacon Lionel is well known throughout the Diocese, the city of St. Petersburg, and our faith community. The Roberts family have been parishioners at Blessed Trinity for over 40 years. He was a very humble man and was always willing to serve when called upon. Please keep the Roberts family in your thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.

The Visitation will be on Sunday, February 11, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. The vigil will begin with Evening Prayer for the Deceased at 5:00 p.m.

The Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, February 12 ,2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in St. Petersburg. Bishop Parkes will be the principal celebrant, and Fr. Wayne Genereux, Pastor, will be the homilist.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Blessed Trinity for the "Renewal of the Interior of the Church/Restoring the Sacred."

Pope Francis Accepts Resignations of Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Perry and Auxiliary Bishop Andrew Wypych

WASHINGTON - Pope Francis has accepted the resignation, having reached age 75, of the Most Reverend Joseph N. Perry, from the Office of Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago. Pope Francis has also accepted the resignation, for health reasons, of the Most Reverend Andrew P. Wypych, from the Office of Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago.

The resignations were publicized in Washington on September 19, 2023, by Cardinal-designate Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States.
