5/14/26 Chew & Digest — Don’t Pass Mission Going to Mission
As an encourager and pastor, my days are filled with speaking life, love, praise, hope, and encouragement into others. I realize that It’s who God called me to be.
The other day, one of my children came to me excited about an idea and asked if I would invest in it. I could hear the passion in their voice. And just like I’ve done so many times before… I invested.
I spoke life, offered wisdom, provided resources, guided and encouraged.
But while listening, I began to reflect on my own childhood.
There were seasons growing up when I felt like I got the short end of the stick. Our home was filled with ministry, compassion, and helping others. And yet, like many children growing up around businesses, purpose, and responsibility, I got lost in the shuffle. There were moments when I quietly wished someone could see the battles I didn’t know how to put into words and my frequent suicidal thoughts.
Before anyone get it twisted, this doesn’t take ANYTHING away from my Mom because she did a phenomenal job both raising me and being a positive example.
My Godmother used to say, “Don’t pass mission going to mission.”
I didn’t understand it then… but I definitely understand it now.
Sometimes ministry happens across the street while neglect tries to live inside our own house.
Scripture reminds us:
1 Timothy 5:8 — “Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith…”
And even Jesus modeled this truth:
Mark 6:4 — “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”
We must be careful not to save the world while starving the ones God entrusted closest to us.
After all… it’s a poor frog that never praises his own pond.
Here’s The Chew 🦷:
Make sure your greatest encouragement isn’t reserved for strangers while your own are surviving on leftovers.
The Digest ❤️:
Ministry begins at home. The same life, patience, listening ear, and investment we give the crowd must also reach the people sitting at our own table.
Pour out… but don’t overlook your own pond while watering everyone else’s
