Good morning, Mt. Zion. Happy Labor Day 2026.

History and Origin -

First Celebration: The first Labor Day took place on September 5, 1882, in New York City. The Central Labor Union organized a parade of about 10,000 workers.

Federal Holiday: President Grover Cleveland signed it into law on June 28, 1894, after the Pullman Strike.

Purpose: It emerged from the Industrial Revolution to recognize workers' struggles for better pay, shorter hours, and safer conditions.

Faith communities can be places where silence is broken, stigma is replaced with compassion and people find the courage to begin again.

At Mt. Zion, we believe faith does not require us to hide our struggles. It calls us to walk beside one another with grace, truth and hope—connecting people to prayer, community and the support they need.

This Recovery Month, may the Church be a safe place for healing and a faithful reminder that no one has to walk the road to recovery alone.

Peace isn't the absence of noise, pressure, uncertainty or problems.

Sometimes nothing around you changes.

The schedule is still full.
The bills still have to be paid.
The family still needs you.
The decision still has to be made.
Tomorrow still has questions.

But faith can change what's happening within you while life is happening around you.

God doesn't promise a life without trouble. He offers His presence, strength and peace in the middle of it.

So if life feels like a lot right now, maybe peace doesn't begin when everything settles down.

Maybe it begins with knowing you don't have to face it alone.

What if it showed up in how you speak.
How you work.
How you treat people.
What you do when no one is watching.
What you choose when you could choose differently.

Reverence toward God isn't about being religious enough. It's living with an awareness that God is present here, too.

At home. At work. In traffic. In our relationships. In our decisions. In the ordinary moments nobody applauds.
