On April 19, 1775, a large caliber projectile exploded from a musket fired by an unknown British army regular and slammed into the chest of American Capt Issac Davis. Captain Davis died instantly and is generally believed to have been the first American death in the battle of Lexington and Concord. The Revolution had begun in earnest!

On August 26, 2021, projectiles hurtled from a su***de vest in Kabul Afghanistan and killed 13 US Marines. Between Captain Davis and those Marines, approximately 1.3 million American Sailers, Soldiers Merchant Marines, Coastguardsmen, Airmen and US Marines died in defense of this country.
We as beneficiaries of those precious lives have a sacred duty to live worthy of their sacrifices. Our rights to vote, speak, assemble, worship and to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness come at incalculable sacrifice.

On this Memorial Day, let us remember the cost of our freedoms and dedicate ourselves to live lives worthy of those who gave their all for those freedoms .

God bless the memory of our defenders and God bless their families whose grief never deminishes.

Sheriff
Martin County
