An annual, month-long celebration, Pride Month honors the LGBTQ+ community and their societal contributions, and celebrates the progress made towards a more inclusive society. It’s also a time to acknowledge the challenges this community faces and to stand in solidarity with their fight for equality, acceptance, and human rights. Pride Month is a joyful and colorful display of love, unity, and resilience. The events and activities promote inclusivity, educate the public, and celebrate the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities.

As the Pride season begins,
We stand for equality, as LGBTQ+ rights are human rights.

Our goal is to publish the most compelling stories and poems while also capturing those stories and poems from voices that are not heard as often in the literary landscape of our times. This year, we expanded beyond stories that feature Saint Paul’s many neighborhoods and communities to include writers and poets from all over Minnesota. In this unique volume, we present writers and poets who are incarcerated, who are working on or publishing memoirs or full-length poetry collections, who are just starting their careers, who are youth, and who are elders. The volume also includes work from past contributors and from our community editors.

More than just Minnesota-focused or Saint Paul–centered, the Almanac is a collection of voices that tell us we are precious and valuable. By sharing what we endured and what we desire, we can create change and transformation. Words are that powerful.

Read the stories and poems selected for Volume 14, our 20th Anniversary issue.
