Jesuit Novitiate of the Midwest USA House of formation for the Midwest Province of the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the U.S.

We are novices in a Catholic religious order called The Society of Jesus (aka the Jesuits), taking our first steps in understanding how to follow Jesus as Jesuits. As novices, we spend time as a community learning how to pray, how to love, and in short, how to know, love, and follow Jesus with our whole lives. Throughout our two years as novices, we go through many different experiences, and here

Over the past three weeks, our new brothers completed First Probation and are now officially novices in the Society of Jesus!

To celebrate, we’ve been making memories together — from a day at the State Fair 🎡, to a Labor Day picnic, to exploring the sights of Minneapolis. It has been a great gift to have the community grow with the nine new members as we learn to live and pray together.

Please keep our novices in your prayers as they continue to walk with Christ in the spirit of St. Ignatius. We’re excited for all that lies ahead!

🛶 Since 1896, Jesuits have found rest on the shores of the Chain O’Lakes in Waupaca, Wisconsin. ☀️

Over the past two weeks, the novices joined nearly 70 other Jesuits for blessed days of rest, reflection, and fraternity - filled with swimming, kayaking, prayer, and time in the sun. 🚣‍♂️🕊️

The time together culminated in a joyful celebration of the Feast of Saint Ignatius, giving thanks for our founder and the mission we share. 🙏🎉

Four weeks of learning, prayer, and community in Chicago! 📚✝️🏙️

Jesuit novices from the Jesuits East, Jesuits West, Jesuits USA Central and Southern, Midwest Jesuits, and Jesuitas Caribe Provinces gathered at Loyola University Chicago for a deep dive into the History of the Society of Jesus.

Highlights included:
🧑‍🏫 Courses with Fr. Stephen Schloesser, SJ, and other Jesuit scholars
🔍 Jesuit Spirituality, Science, Missions, and AI
🎭 Seminars on Theater, Early-Modern Spirituality, and Gerard Manley Hopkins

Witness to the Brother’s Vocation

During Province Days, Jesuit Brothers gathered in prayer to support three men preparing to profess vows as Brothers in the Society of Jesus this August.

It’s the largest group of Jesuit Brothers to take vows in decades—a blessing for the Society and a powerful witness to this unique and vital vocation.

Earlier this week, we had the joy and privilege of welcoming Archbishop Bernard A. Hebda, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, to the novitiate for Mass and a simple brunch.

In his homily, Archbishop Hebda spoke powerfully about the mission of the Church—encouraging us as Jesuit novices to embody the mission that St. Ignatius of Loyola placed before us: to go forth, serve others, and find God in all things. His words were a source of inspiration and renewal.

Following Mass, we shared a light breakfast together, enjoying warm conversation, laughter, and the gift of fraternal fellowship. We were also blessed to be joined by Fr. Karl Kiser, S.J., Provincial of the USA Midwest Jesuits, who spent the morning with us.

Moments like these remind us of the deep bonds we share in our shared vocation and the broader mission of the Society of Jesus.
