Confirmation for the 2026-2027 Year: We are excited to share that Confirmation classes will begin this September for students who are 12 years old and older and who have already received First Communion. Students who have not yet received Baptism or First Communion but are interested in preparing for Confirmation are encouraged to speak with Fr. Christopher. Arrangements can be made to prepare for Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation while attending the Confirmation classes. Classes will meet twice a month and will run from September through April, with no classes during the summer months. Our program follows a two-year (A/B year) curriculum. This means that students may begin in either year and will still complete all 24 lessons of the Confirmation journey over the two-year cycle. We warmly invite all eligible students and families to participate in this important step of faith and spiritual growth. We will also be holding a parent meeting in early June to go over scheduling details (date and time to be announced). We look forward to walking with our students as they prepare for this important step in their faith! Please contact Sophie Connor, [email protected], if you have any questions.

Gen Z is flocking to church in droves.

Young Catholics are filling churches across New York City, driven by a growing desire for tradition, community and moral order in an increasingly secular world.

It's a notable shift as young people—particularly young men—increasingly prioritize religious devotion.

Father Christopher Rayan celebrated his Priestly Silver Jubilee yesterday, surrounded by 22 brother priests from the Archdiocese of Portland, the Most Reverend Peter Smith, Auxiliary Bishop, Monsignor Joseph Betchart, and many friends and parishioners from our parish.
We warmly congratulate Father Christopher on 25 years of faithful service to God’s people. We are deeply grateful to have him here in St. Paul and ask that you continue to keep him in your daily prayers.

Dear brothers and sisters,
This is a reminder that we will have our Penance Service tomorrow, Thursday, at 6:30 PM at St. Paul Church. We will have 3 priests available to hear confessions.
Our Church teaches that at least once a year we are called to go to Confession and participate in the Easter celebration, which brings happiness, God’s blessings, and peace to our minds and hearts. The Sacrament of Reconciliation frees us from guilt, restores peace and harmony within us, and strengthens our relationship with God and with one another.
I kindly invite all of you to come and participate in this beautiful sacrament of God’s mercy.
Thank you, and God bless you all.
Happy Easter in advance! May the Risen Lord bless you and your families.
-Father Christopher Rayan

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus of the St. Paul Community,

Lent is a season of grace. It is a time for transformation. God invites us to move from our old life to a new and beautiful life — like a butterfly.

The butterfly begins as a tiny egg. From the egg comes a caterpillar. The caterpillar crawls on the ground. It eats constantly. Many people do not like its appearance. It seems small and unattractive. After some time, the caterpillar stops eating. It enters into a chrysalis. It remains there quietly. From the outside, nothing seems to happen. But inside, a great change is taking place. After about twenty-one days, a beautiful butterfly comes out. The same creature that once crawled on the ground now flies with colorful wings. What a wonderful transformation!

This is also our spiritual journey. When we commit sin and make mistakes, we become spiritually weak. Sin makes our hearts heavy. It hurts our relationship with God. It can also hurt our family and friends. We may become impatient, angry, or selfish. But when we recognize our sins and truly repent, something begins to change. When we go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, God forgives us. He cleanses our hearts. He restores our relationships. He fills us with peace and joy.

Confession is like entering the chrysalis. It may require silence, honesty, and humility. But inside, God is working. He is transforming us. Lent is our time of transformation.

Are we ready to leave behind the old self?

Are we ready to allow God to change us?

Are we ready to become new?

May this Lent help us rise from sin to grace, from sadness to joy, from weakness to new life.

May God bless you all.

Fr. Christopher S Rayan

Christmas message from Father Christopher..

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, As we celebrate the joyful feast of Christmas, I extend my heartfelt wishes to each one of you and to your families. May the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ fill your homes with peace, hope, and lasting joy.

Christmas reminds us that God is with us. In the child born in Bethlehem, God comes close to our human lives—sharing our joys, our struggles, and our hopes. This holy season invites us to welcome Christ into our hearts and to make our celebrations truly meaningful through prayer, gratitude, and love.

I encourage you to use this special time to strengthen your family bonds—by coming together, sharing meals, exchanging gifts, and, most importantly, forgiving one another. Let us also reach out to those who may feel lonely or in need. Even the smallest acts of kindness can become powerful signs of God’s loving presence.

On this joyful occasion, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our Parish Council members who lovingly brought food for the priests who came to assist with our Penance Service. Your kindness, generosity, and thoughtful care were deeply appreciated. Thank you for taking such good care of me as well. I truly feel supported, welcomed, and blessed in this parish.

I want you to know that I am very happy to be here with you, and I thank God every day for this wonderful parish community, and for your love, cooperation, and prayers. May the newborn Savior bless our parish, our families, and our community with health, peace, and unity. May the coming year draw us ever closer to Christ and to one another.

I wish you all a Blessed, Joyful, and Meaningful Christmas and a grace-filled New Year.

With prayers and blessings,
Fr. Christopher S. Rayan
Pastor
