What is Chalice Camp? A Message from Hannah Eller-Isaacs, Camp Director
Chalice Camp is a unique experience which helps our children build a deeper connection with each other, our church and the larger community. While we are expecting two separate curriculum between the two weeks of Chalice Camp there are some aspects which will stay constant. The Chalice Camp staff and special guests will consi
st of youth and young adults from the church community which will help foster inter-generational community. This will be our fifth year of Chalice Camp at Unity Church and I am sure it will be one of the best years yet! Our general schedule will include: daily worship and small group activities during both group time and open choice. In the past open choice activities have included: sports activities and other outdoor play, friendship bracelets and other arts and crafts activities. This year we are hoping to incorporate various spiritual practices into this time including journaling, yoga and meditation. In the afternoon we will have short skits or story time which will tie into the daily theme. Each day there will also be a large group outdoor game or water play (weather permitting). We will end each day with a large group closing ceremony and entries into our “Chalice Camp Books”. During Chalice Camp Week 1 (July 7-11) we will be focusing on our Unitarian Universalist heritage. The activities throughout the day will cover the 7 principles and our UU history being in with our Unitarian roots in Transylvania and moving through to present day. Chalice Camp Week 2 (July 21-25) will focus on our community as a whole. We will be learning about our multi-cultural neighborhood and getting out into the community to experience the vibrant neighborhood around the church.
