Sahag represents the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church, a member of the Oriental Orthodox communion. The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Republic of Armenia, is the seat of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians. The Rev. Tadeos Barseghyan has led our parish since November 2012, succeeding the Rev. Frs. Hratch Sargsyan (2010–2011) and Sahak Kaishian (2007–2009). The former Merriam P
ark Presbyterian Church (1912) was purchased in December, 2000. The historic structure was sensitively redesigned into an Armenian sanctuary. Outdoor signage in English and Armenian is the first prominent display of Armenian letters in Minnesota. On Sunday, January 14, 2001, seventeen centuries after Armenia’s conversion to Christianity, the Rev. Yeprem Kelegian celebrated the first Armenian worship service in our new sanctuary. Consecration day, Saturday, September 7, 2002, fulfilled a long-held dream for the Armenians in Minnesota, and indeed, the upper Midwest. This century-old community, first settled in 1899, finally had a church home. In October, 2007, St. Sahag was honored to welcome His Holiness Karekin II, the first Catholicos of All Armenians to visit Minnesota.
