AvaMarie Armbright was one of 10 young adults who served as interns this summer, thanks to the synod's Planting Hope Campaign. She interned with the Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities - Naomi Family Program, a new site for us this year. "Working at Naomi has been so much more than just playing with kids for a few hours each day," AvaMarie said. "Every day has been an opportunity to build relationships, earn the kids’ trust, and simply be a caring presence in their lives." Listen in as she talks about her internship experience!

"This internship has taught me how to connect with older adults...and the value of just slowing down to listen to somebody's life story."

Grant Siebert, a member of Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in St Paul, spent his summer interning at Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul, where he supported people with dementia through activities and conversation. Ten young adults served as interns this summer, made possible by the synod's Planting Hope Campaign. Take a listen as Grant talks about his internship experience and how it's impacted him!

Getting photos from the Minnesota Twins is helping us remember the magic of Lutheran Night at Target Field a few weeks ago! Check out Bishop Justin in action throwing out the first pitch, the lineup of Lutherans introduced before the game and the Lutheran mass choir that sang the National Anthem. What a great night!

Last evening, some 170 congregation representatives gathered at St. Andrew's in Mahtomedi to hear about the ways congregations and individuals in the synod are "seeking shalom"...the peace and well-being of their community. The Mission Support Thank-You Dinner included a buffet dinner from Shobi's Table, a Bible study on Jeremiah 29, and music led by Nate Crary and friends.

The Rev. Tim Maybee (Amazing Grace Lutheran Church - IGH) and synod staff Rev. Kirsten Fryer and Deacon Krista Lind moderated presentations that highlighted a successful congregation redevelopment process, support for candidates for rostered ministry and an ethnic-specific mission development. Thank you to the pastors and redevelopment team at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wyoming; candidate for rostered ministry Karla Leitzman; and Pastor Gilo Agwa (Foundation of Life, Mahtomedi) for their participation. Our deep appreciation also goes to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church - MN for hosting our group.

Thanks to the congregations who sent in photos of their groups from Lutheran Night with the Twins! We're still waiting for pictures from the Twins organization, but we just couldn't wait to share these now. Thanks to our own Revs. Seth Perry (Elim Lutheran Church in Scandia) and John Klawiter (Faith Lutheran Church in Forest Lake) for their top-notch organization of the event. We had a ball!

This week we celebrate with the Rev. Lue Moua, installed today as the pastor of Cross Lutheran Church in Oakdale.

Meet Batt Clem, who interned at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville this summer through the synod's internship program. Take two minutes to hear her reflections about the intern experience, young adult faith conversations and building community through non-traditional church gatherings.

The synod was blessed with an engaged, thoughtful and caring group of summer interns who worked at nonprofit organizations such as food shelves, senior housing dementia units, family shelters, employment assistance and congregations. We recognized their contributions and thanked site supervisors during an end-of-the-season celebration last Friday. Several supervisors noted the impact these young adults had and many of the interns spoke eloquently about experiences and learning that will stay with them long after the summer ends. More photos of the intern celebration can be seen here: https://bit.ly/26SPASinterns.

Watch for more videos of these impressive young adults as we gather their stories from a summer of service. The internship program is funded by the synod's Planting Hope Campaign.
