Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

Sunday, we will begin a new series on prayer based on the book Effectual Prayer written by Frances Foulks. Effectual Prayer is an early book written in 1928, describing the steps to effectual prayer. We are all aware that the foundational spiritual practice of Unity is prayer. What is not well known is what makes Unity prayer effective, and how to pray. Praying from a consciousness of the indwelling Christ sounds and feels very different than the prayer we may have grown up with.

Sunday, I will talk about what makes prayer effectual to living in the consciousness of the Christ.

The weather is warm, the birds are singing, and the flowers are blooming. Life is good. Stay safe and be well.

Did you know that elephants greet each other by clasping trunks, similar to a human handshake? Did you know that giraffes say hello by rubbing their necks together, or that horses go nose to nose to pick up each other’s scent and share a breath? Lions welcome each other by rubbing heads, nuzzling, purring and making low soft hums. And dogs, well, we all know how dogs greet each other! How do humans welcome another and why are we asking?
One of the core values of Unity in the Heart is welcoming. When was the last time you gave any thought about how to be welcoming? Is it more than just smiling and shaking someone’s hand? A focus on how to be welcoming can be a personal and spiritual practice, and contributes to the atmosphere and quality of our community. We’ll take a look at this on Sunday with Rev. Laurie Brandt as we consider Unity in the Heart as the welcoming, supportive spiritual community that it is!
