Bega Kwa Bega The Companion Synod Partnership between the Saint Paul Area Synod (ELCA) and Iringa Diocese (ELCT). www.spas-elca.org/tanzania

Bega Kwa Bega is the name of the companion synod relationship between the Saint Paul Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America with the Iringa Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. Bega Kwa Bega - “Shoulder to Shoulder” in Swahili - describes both the model of accompaniment with the Iringa Diocese and the umbrella name under which a variety of programmatic efforts

are carried out, including:

+ Congregational visits
+ Scholarship support for secondary and theological students
+ Congregational projects
+ Various other efforts around health care, agriculture, support for pensions for retired pastors, wells, sanitation and hygiene, conservation, and microfinance—to name just a few.

Today was Post Secondary Review Board interview day. We met 20 students, all in their second or third year of college or university. So many hopes and dreams, stories of overcoming challenges, stories of family sacrifice, and many wishing to help their communities. Some want to pursue business, others health careers, teaching, cyber security, finance. Parents sacrificed to support their first year of studies, and as one student said, "now there are no more cows left to sell." This year we have funds enough for 14 theology students, 20+ continuing students, and only a small amount for new students. We will announce award amounts in early October, so there's still time to send in a gift to support these students. Thanks to all who support the Post Sec Scholarship Program of BKB.
