Starting Sunday Sept 6: A new worship message series. Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone" offered a space to tell stories -- parables -- about social justice using fantasy and moral fable to hold a mirror up to the fears, prejudices, and instabilities of his time. Jesus' parables often do the same, offering the hearer an invitation to see their own world differently than they did a moment before. This 4-week series treats four of Serling's tv parables as conversation partners for four of Jesus's parables in Matthew's Gospel, helping us name the unease of this current moment when old certainties feel like they're giving way — politically, economically, culturally — and to ask what it might look like to find our footing in a renewed, active commitment to justice, empathy, compassion, and peace.
