The Church could not be the Church until the Fire of God fell at Pentecost. The Temple made without hands was dedicated, and the Fire fell, enabling the saints, as individuals, to be lamps and, collectively, as churches, to be lamp stands. Cloven tongues of fire sat on each of them to illustrate that God had cleansed that unruly member that darkened counsel and defiled them with the fires of hell, but now set it on fire of Heaven that they would give light to the world with edifying and undefiled words. It was the watershed event of all of their lives.

How does a person begin in the Spirit and then end up in the flesh? How does a leader begin their ministry doing nothing without seeking the Lord and end up self-willed and rebellious against God and His word? We have the example in the life of King Uzziah. As long as he sought the Lord, God made Him prosper. But the older he got, the stronger he felt, and his heart was lifted up to his destruction. It’s as if the man Uzziah himself began to ferment like grape juice that breaks down with time. He became puffed up, and God destroyed him. He did run well. What happened to him?

We shouldn't be surprised when the Devil’s children aren't happy when others of the Devil’s children are cleared of Devils. Legion was utterly in the grip of the enemy, and yet nobody in his circles celebrated his deliverance but him. He was tormented and vexed beyond comprehension until Jesus showed up. Then the demons cried out for mercy, thinking it was their turn. Jesus cleared Legion of a multitude of demons. He put on clothes and quit cutting himself. He walked out of the tombs as normal as anybody. But understand that if he didn’t turn fully to Christ, those demons would have returned in force. Such as it is in our lives. There is no neutral ground between God and the Devil. We must serve one or the other. Nature abhors a vacuum. Be cleared of the enemy and filled with the Holy Spirit.

Most people who believe in healing and miracles think in terms of physical healing. Yet Peter writes, “Who Himself (Jesus) bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.” (1 Peter 2:24-25 NKJV) The healing in this context is that of backsliding. We recognize the divine or satanic nature of an action by its outcomes. Does it edify or does it destroy? This is Paul’s test for everything. Satan beguiles even the most seasoned Saints to stand by as he steals, kills, and destroys. We must ask, does the action foster peace among God’s people, or does it sow discord? God is not the author of confusion—this term is translated from the Greek word akatastasia, and it signifies instability, disturbance, and chaos. God is the Author of Peace, as stated in 1 Corinthians 14:33.

Satan, the adversary, plans years in advance in almost imperceptible steps to instigate conflict long before it emerges, waiting to unleash his agents of destruction once his plan is executable. The greater the conflict, the more control he has, no matter what the people involved claim or who they blame. We are called to live in peace with one another and to strive for harmony with all people. Peace is how God bruises Satan under our feet (Romans 16:20).
