Ms. Kayla's Letter from Camp:

Hello muddahs, hello fadduhs, here we are at Camp Tekoa...

Our week has been filled to the brim with laughter, new experiences, and love in action. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for our small group and our incredible hosts.

The Chaperone Dream Team ™ has been loving, motivating, and joking with your kiddos while we work, laugh, and play. Our lodge allowed us to spend our time in close fellowship, and our work and activities have pushed our minds and bodies out of our comfort zones into a growth zone.

We have seen your kids overcome their fears by climbing scaffolding to paint, high towers for zip lines, we have learned what sacrificial love means, and how we can take that from our lessons and apply it in our work.

Your kids have stepped in to help each other, have motivated each other, have spent time building loving relationships, and have made memories to take back with them. We have seen snow and experienced 30-degree weather changes in a day, we have eaten our body weight in s'mores and pickles.

I have cried on several occasions because I am overwhelmed with love and pride in your kids. Ms. Kaitlyn has braided or curled multiple heads of hair, and Mr. Steve has kept your kids smiling and laughing while dominating at Uno.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me the week to minister to your beautiful kids in a new environment. And thank you to the kids for making me love my work deeply and completely.

We are so glad your kids are here with us, and we cannot wait to have a morning of beautiful waterfalls and overlooks before we safely return tomorrow night.

Another day of great work by our mission trip team! We finished up our project at Legacy Valley NC today, and went on a trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway to the visitor center and Folk Art Center!

We want to extend a huge thank you to Dave and Michelle for hosting our group, feeding us, and adapting their Tuesday Bible Study to include our group.

God is moving in the mountains, and we are so glad we could be a part of it!

Before and after pictures of the work our kiddos tackled the last two days.

Mission Trip day 2!

We spent today at Legacy Valley NC, learning about how they serve and love their local community. We had a great time working together with Dave to accomplish our tasks.

We are grateful to be here and can't wait to see what the next two days hold for our group!

Another successful youth event at River of Life!

Our Valentine’s Day dinner was full of great food, terrible jokes, and fellowship. Our kids did a great job setting up and serving.

Thank you to everyone supported our event, and a huge thank you to our kiddos who crushed it!

Our kids know that the whiteboard in our classroom is used for self expression, heated rounds of hangman, and messages to Ms. Kayla.

We have local groups that meet in our spaces and they add to the whiteboard ecosystem regularly - ENTER: Greg, who has become a protected species on the board. (Photo 1)

One of Ms. Kayla's favorite things is to come in to see the new drawings, to the point we made a board so we could capture thermal photos when we had to erase our kids art (Photo 2). Today, we had a new drawing. One that seems harmless and insignificant to some. (Photo 3).

But its not insignificant to Ms. Kayla, and it shouldn't be insignificant to you either.

We as a society create the spaces that others feel like "black sheep" in. We do it in our actions, in our words, and the way we choose to respond to others suffering. We use the term "black sheep" but ignore the biblical significance that we are ALL sheep, His sheep. If one is lost, He will come for us, because we are of ONE flock.

We never want our kids to feel like black sheep, and we hope every "black sheep" knows River of Life is leaving our 99 to find that 1.
