A Statement from St. Johns First Church of God
We are saddened by recent statements circulating on social media regarding St. Johns First Church of God and Pastor KC Graves. Because inaccurate information has been shared publicly, we feel it is important to clarify the facts.
First, the claim that Pastor KC Graves required Rainbow Place Preschool to leave the church as a condition of accepting the pastorate is simply untrue. Such a condition was never requested, discussed, or required. Pastor KC comes to our church after 27 years of ministry dedicated to children, youth, and families, and his love for young people has been evident throughout his time here.
The decision regarding future facility use was made by the church board after months of prayer, discussion, and consideration of the church’s current and future ministry needs. This was a board decision and was not the result of any demand or requirement from Pastor KC.
It is also important to clarify that Rainbow Place Preschool was not unexpectedly asked to leave. During the annual agreement renewal meeting in the summer of 2025, Rainbow Place leadership was informed that the church was reviewing its future space needs and that renewal beyond the current agreement could not be guaranteed. When the board ultimately decided not to renew the agreement beyond its expiration date of May 31, 2026, Rainbow Place was offered a month-to-month extension through August 31, 2026. The board also expressed a willingness to discuss additional accommodations, if needed, while alternate arrangements were being finalized.
We understand that this transition has been difficult for those involved. Rainbow Place Preschool was part of our building and community for many years, and we are grateful for the role they played during that time. We sincerely wish their staff, students, and families continued success in their new and larger location.
As a church, we remain committed to serving children, youth, families, and our community. We believe disagreements can occur, but we also believe they should be addressed with truth, grace, and respect. We are thankful for the unity, compassion, and leadership Pastor KC and his family have brought to our congregation, and we remain confident in the direction God is leading our church.
This will be our only public statement regarding this matter. Our focus will remain on the mission God has given us and the ministry opportunities ahead. We will continue praying for Rainbow Place Preschool and wish them nothing but the very best in the future.
