What do you do with a helplessness you can’t out-plan, out-research, or out-control?

We’ve all sat in that parking lot, whether it was a diagnosis, a phone call, or a spiral we couldn’t stop. In this message, Elliott shares the story of sitting outside a hospital in 2020 while his daughter was inside, and then takes us to Psalm 23 and Matthew 6:25-34. David doesn’t escape the valley, but he doesn’t have to fear it, because God is with him. Jesus tells us not to be pulled apart by worry, and points us to the Father who knows exactly what we need. Together we look at why anxiety isn’t a missing faith but a faith that has lost perspective, and how we can learn to abide in Christ and release control to Him. Elliott also addresses the role of Christian counselors and medication, so that no one hears “just pray more.”

Guest speaker Jack Merrill joined us at Swiss Cove to ask a question worth sitting with: are you listening to Jesus? Jack reminds us that it's better to be grumpy and obedient than happy and disobedient. He shares Dallas Willard's warning that if the devil can't make you sin, he'll make you busy. He also looks at how Jesus got alone with God because he knew noise would crowd out his Father's voice. Jack closes with a daily practice anyone can start today: pray, "Let your will be done."
