St. Francis of Assisi saw all of creation as a gift from God and called the animals his sisters and brothers. Each year, we continue that beautiful Franciscan tradition by welcoming our neighbors and their beloved pets to the grounds of St. Francis Convent for our Annual Blessing of the Pets.

Bring your dog, cat, or other beloved animal companion and join the Sisters for a joyful morning of gratitude, community, and blessing.

Join Us!

10:00 a.m.–Noon
Enjoy a morning on the beautiful convent grounds, meet the Sisters, and bring your pets to receive a special greeting and individual blessing.

10:30 a.m. — Group Blessing
Gather with us for a special blessing of all our animal companions. The group blessing will be livestreamed on Facebook for those who cannot join us in person.

Individual Blessings
Throughout the morning, Sisters will offer individual greetings and blessings for your beloved pets.

Treats for Our Furry Friends!
Every visiting pet will receive a special treat as our way of celebrating the joy and companionship they bring into our lives.

Whether your companion has four legs, feathers, or another special place in your heart, we hope you'll join us!

Free parking is available on the convent grounds.

Come celebrate with us as we give thanks for the animals who bring us so much love, comfort, and joy—and for the beautiful gift of God's creation.

On the first Monday in September, we celebrate Labor Day to honor the social and economic achievements of American workers. In the late 19th century, labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to the prosperity and well-being of our country. On this Labor Day, as you use something in your house, drive your car, walk on a sidewalk, wear garments, eat your food, become aware of all the workers who affect your life every day and say a prayer of gratitude for all they have done for you.

Huge Sewing Rummage Sale to Benefit Sisters

All are invited to stop by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi Sewing Rummage Sale on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will be held on the grounds of St. Francis Convent, 3221 S. Lake Drive in St. Francis, in the Troubadour building (watch for signs). It will feature hundreds of pieces of fabric, mostly priced at $4 per yard. In addition to fabrics for quilting, garments, and crafting, also find thread, zippers, patterns purse patterns, quilting magazines, batting, stabilizers, and much more! All proceeds will benefit retired Sisters. Come early for best selection!

The Feast of St. Clare of Assisi
Today, August 11, we honor St. Clare, a faithful follower
of St. Francis whose life was a beautiful expression of
Franciscan charity, hospitality, and simplicity. St.
Clare led her Sisters to be true followers of Francis as
they formed their own congregation, the Poor Clares,
and continued his ministry of care and compassion for
all of creation. We are grateful today for this wonderful
Franciscan saint and her powerful legacy of service to
the most vulnerable among us.

Celebrating the Foundation of the Franciscan Family in August
The Feast of Our Lady of the Angels of the Portiuncula on August 2 is a special day of celebration for Franciscans. The Portiuncula was a little chapel that was abandoned and needed much repair. St. Francis of Assisi restored it, and it became the heart of Franciscan life. On this day, we join our Franciscan family throughout the world as we pray,
"We come before you, O God, with grateful hearts, remembering the grace You poured out upon St. Francis in the Portiuncula. Through the loving intercession of Our Lady of the Angels, draw us closer to You, that we may live with the same simplicity, joy, and trust that marked the life of St. Francis. May the Portiuncula always remind us of Your abundant mercy, that in You we find true peace, and that you call us to serve those most in need. Amen."

Congregation Signs On to LCWR Declaration of Commitment
The Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi have joined other congregations who are members of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) in endorsing LCWR’s “Declaration of Commitment” in preparation for the 250th anniversary of the United States.
“In preparation for this anniversary, we have gathered in prayer, dialogue, and discernment to consider how best to exercise our moral responsibility on behalf of those most in need at this critical moment in our nation’s history,” read the letter that the conference has sent to U.S. Senators and Representatives. “We respectfully ask that you take the time to read the LCWR Declaration of Commitment and consider the witness of the leadership of Catholic Sisters whose signatures affirm their solidarity with all who believe in a government truly dedicated to serving its people.”

Happy 250th Birthday to the United States of America!
God of all wisdom, as we celebrate 250 years as a nation, we give you thanks for your guidance through times of triumph and trial, through moments of unity and division, and through the long journey toward a more perfect union. We thank You for the vision and courage of our founding fathers and mothers who declared liberty in 1776 and for the countless men and women who have defended and worked to preserve the freedoms we have. As we move forward, may we be a people who seek truth, love mercy, and walk humbly with You. May our leaders be guided by your wisdom and work for the common good of all. May our children inherit a nation that values integrity, cherishes freedom, and extends kindness to all. Amen.

Happy Foundation Day to our Sisters! On May 28, 1849, a small group of courageous women arrived in Wisconsin carrying little more than faith, trust in God’s providence, and a deep desire to live the Gospel in the spirit of St. Francis. That moment marked the beginning of The Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi. Each year on May 28, our Foundation Day, we remember their journey. But more importantly, we celebrate a living legacy that continues through all of the lives the Sisters have touched.
