Trinity Sunday
9:30 a.m. Bluegrass Worship at Salem
This week’s worship will use the Light Into the World: Hope for a New Day liturgy. Copies are available outside the Sanctuary door, or follow along with the slides.
Worship is in Salem's Sanctuary. Coffee and cookies will be served after; no potluck this week.
We will also be reciting the Athanasian Creed this week. Words will be projected on the screen. The Athanasian Creed is the result of church history. In the first 300 years of the church many heresies, or wrong-beliefs, were conjured up as people wrestled with the challenge that is our Christian faith: the belief that God chose to condescend to us, to die and to break death for our sake. In that wrestling, the understanding of who Christ was to us became articulated in the Athanasian Creed. Read it today with that lens as we reflect on what it means to be Christian today. Your ears, like mine, will likely get stuck near the end when it mentions “eternal fire.” I pray you take a moment to separate the ancient notions of hellfire and cosmology from our own and listen to the important words that grapple with the center of our faith: who Christ is for us. Ask Pastor Kirsten for resources if you want to learn more. https://cloud-1de12d.becdn.net/media/original/545c913f2f8aa781f5fa4510c9ad9129.pdf
