Today we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus!

Without the Ascension we would have no hope that Jesus has gone to his Father’s house to prepare a place for us. No hope that he will return in the same way that he went up.

If he is not on the throne, then he has also not sent his Spirit to comfort us and guide us into all truth, nor would we have the Spirit serving as our advocate with the Father.

If he is not ascended, then there is no hope that the world still has it’s Lord when we face catastrophes. There would be no comfort that comes from the hope of dwelling before the Son and the Father in the New Jerusalem, and no hope that we are heirs of the kingdom who will be vindicated and share in his glory forever. After all, how can we share in his glory if he is not glorified on the throne?

No Ascension means Old Testament prophecies would be left open and unfulfilled, there would be no Office of the Ministry, and no Sacraments.

As I often say to people around here: “The Ascension is important.”

So thanks be to God for the Lamb who was slain who is worthy to take the throne!
