🚨DON’T FORGET!🚨

You’re Invited to Worship with Our Friends at Renewal Church! 🤝

This Sunday, we’re taking church on the road!

Renewal Church, Pastor Aubrey’s home church in West Chicago, has graciously invited Bethany Covenant to join their table for worship. Since both of our churches are journeying through the Praying the Psalms series this summer, it’s a wonderful opportunity to worship together, meet new friends, and celebrate what God is doing in our communities.

You Can Be Honest with God

Most of us try to hide the parts of ourselves we’re ashamed of. We will do whatever it takes to hide our mistakes and failures in hopes that nobody notices. Unfortunately, that’s not quite how it works with God. He can see it all. Psalm 51 reminds us that it’s ok to be honest with God.

After one of the darkest moments of his life, David doesn’t pretend everything is okay. He brings his guilt, regret, and brokenness to God.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”

David shows us it’s not about being perfect. We are human and make mistakes. What matters is that we come to God as we are because He doesn’t let our mistakes define us. We shouldn’t either.

As we pray the Psalms, we discover that God isn’t looking for perfect people. He’s looking for honest hearts. Let yourself be forgiven. Let God take it from you and carry it. Forgive yourself. You are loved as you are.

What Is Shaping You?

Every day, we’re being shaped by something.

The voices we listen to.
The habits we form.
The people we surround ourselves with.
The stories we believe.

Psalm 1 begins with a simple question: What is forming your life?

The psalm compares a person rooted in God’s wisdom to a tree planted by streams of water; steady, nourished, and able to flourish through every season.

Wisdom isn’t about knowing all the answers. It’s about choosing what will root and sustain us over time.

Gratitude That Doesn’t Ignore the Hard Stuff

It’s easy to think gratitude means pretending everything is okay but Psalm 30 tells a different story with a powerful reminder.

David doesn’t skip over the pain. He remembers the nights of weeping, the seasons of fear, and the moments when he cried out to God.

Only then does he say:

“Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”

Biblical gratitude isn’t denying hardship. It’s recognizing that God has been faithful through it.

The Psalms remind us that we don’t have to choose between honesty and hope. We can bring both to God. Join us this Sunday as we continue our journey through Psalms.

Learning to Pray with Your Whole Life

Many of us only pray when something goes wrong and rejoice when something goes right. What if we challenge you to do the opposite?

Psalm 30 reminds us that prayer is also about remembering where God has met us.

Remembering the people who carried us.
Remembering the moments we thought we wouldn’t make it—but did because of Him.
Rejoicing in His name even when the world truly tests us.

Gratitude isn’t just saying “thank you.” It’s learning to recognize God’s presence throughout our story.

As we continue our Praying the Psalms series, we’re discovering that prayer isn’t about finding perfect words. It’s about bringing our real lives before a faithful God. Join us this Sunday at 9:30am!
