The Catholic Church encourages the faithful to pray for the souls of the departed.
One of the most well known prayers associated with this devotion is the Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great.
According to a popular tradition, Our Lord revealed to St. Gertrude that many souls would be helped through the faithful recitation of this prayer.
While the Church has not officially confirmed the specific number of souls said to be released through it, Catholics are encouraged to pray it with faith, charity, and trust in God's mercy.

"Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home, and within my family. Amen."

β’ Death does not break the communion of the Church
β’ Charity extends beyond the grave
β’ The souls in purgatory can benefit from our prayers
β’ It is a spiritual work of mercy

When we pray for the holy souls, we imitate Christ's love and mercy.
One day, we too may depend on the prayers of others.
Never underestimate the value of a simple prayer offered with faith.
May God grant eternal rest to all the faithful departed and bring them into the glory of Heaven.
βοΈ "Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen."
