Post 6:

The disciples stepped into the world after Pentecost not because they suddenly had everything figured out, but because they were filled with courage, hope, and the Spirit of God. Graduation, new jobs, life changes, and uncertain futures can all become “Pentecost moments” where God sends us forward.

What if your next chapter is less about having all the answers and more about trusting the One walking with you?

Faith is not something you have to perfect before you begin. Even great leaders and disciples grew into faith over time. Sometimes faith simply begins with saying, “God, I don’t have all the answers, but I trust You to guide me.”

What would change if you stopped waiting for perfect faith before taking the next step?

The fire of Pentecost didn’t just comfort the disciples—it pushed them forward. The Holy Spirit gave them courage to speak, act, and live with purpose. God still works that way today through our gifts, passions, convictions, and even those quiet nudges we can’t ignore.

Are you listening to where God might be calling you next?

Pentecost reminds us that God doesn’t wait until we have life figured out before showing up. The Holy Spirit came to the disciples while they were confused, afraid, and waiting. God meets us in the middle of the unknown—not after we solve it.

Where in your life do you need to stop waiting for certainty and start trusting God’s presence?

Abraham Lincoln’s story wasn’t a straight line to success. He faced failure, heartbreak, depression, and loss. Yet through those struggles, his faith deepened. Real faith isn’t pretending to have all the answers—it’s learning to depend on God when life feels overwhelming.

Could your hardest seasons be shaping you into the person you’re meant to become?

Fear and uncertainty don’t mean you’re failing—they often mean you’re standing at the edge of something new. The disciples felt lost before Pentecost, yet that’s exactly where God met them. Sometimes the moments we feel least prepared are the moments God begins to work most powerfully in our lives.

What if uncertainty isn’t a sign to stop, but an invitation to trust?

Here's how you tie Graduation Sunday and Pentecost together....

Sermon Summary — Sent by the Spirit

On Pentecost, the disciples stood at a crossroads filled with fear, uncertainty, and questions about the future. Then the Holy Spirit came like wind and fire, transforming their fear into courage and their confusion into purpose. Pentecost reminds us that God often meets us not when we feel prepared, but when we feel uncertain and unsure of what comes next.

The sermon connects this moment to graduates today, who also stand on the edge of a new chapter. Questions about failure, purpose, and the future are natural. Abraham Lincoln’s life serves as an example that faith is often shaped through struggle, setbacks, and dependence on God rather than confidence in ourselves.

The Holy Spirit is not reserved for people who have everything figured out. The Spirit guides, teaches, strengthens, and calls people forward even in difficult moments. Just as fire transformed the disciples and sent them into the world, God continues to work through our gifts, passions, and quiet moments of conviction.

The message reminds graduates—and all of us—that faith is a journey, not a finished achievement. We do not need perfect certainty to move forward. We simply need the willingness to trust that God walks beside us. Pentecost is ultimately a reminder that we are sent into the future not because we are fully ready, but because we are filled with the Spirit.

John Wesley described his conversion experience by saying his “heart was strangely warmed.”

Not because life suddenly became easy.
Not because all his problems disappeared.
But because he finally trusted that God would never let him go.

Real peace begins when you stop fighting to prove your value and start resting in God’s love.

Question: What would it look like for you to truly rest in grace instead of constantly striving?

The world tells us:
Work harder.
Be better.
Prove yourself.
Keep achieving.

Grace says:
You don’t have to earn what God already wants to give you.

That doesn’t make people lazy. It changes the reason they live. Instead of living from fear, they live from gratitude.

Question: Are your decisions motivated more by fear of failure or by love and gratitude?
