“Blessed are the merciful… for they will be shown mercy”
People who have received the mercy of Jesus are called to be people to give the mercy of Jesus. Mercy, by definition, is underserved. Mercy is extending compassion, forgiveness to someone who has not earned it.

Jesus takes two of the most fundamental human needs, hunger and thirst, and uses them to describe the spiritual posture of someone who belongs to the Kingdom of God.

It's possible to hunger for the things of God, and not God himself. It's possible to be so busy doing church things, that we miss Jesus completely. To be hungry for righteousness means we are not full from the things of the world.
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." Matthew 5:6.
