Our Christ's Campfire Kids children’s ministry said “so long” to summer in our Closing Campfire on Sunday at Peace. We learned about Elijah and his special relationship with God. In our Bible story about Elijah, we read that he was a prophet who gave important messages to the people from God.

Sometimes these were messages that the people did not want to hear. This made them sour with Elijah. Still, Elijah persisted to take God’s messages to them. Sometimes, Elijah didn’t hear God’s voice the way he thought he should.
Our God is mighty, all-knowing and larger than life, so Elijah felt he would hear God’s voice in bigger than big ways – like in the earthquakes, thunderstorms and blazing wildfires – but God spoke to Elijah in a still, quiet voice of calm steadfastness and love.

God wants us to speak with Him, too. He is mighty and all-knowing, so He knows what we are going through in our good times and in bad. Even still, He wants us to come to him with our praise, as well as our concerns. And we know He is there whether we hear Him speak to us or not.

The important thing is that we pray, and pray often. God hears all our prayers and answers every one of them, but sometimes we need to be patient with that answer. The Bible says it this way: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

On Sunday, Campfire Kids made a tool to help them pray when they don't know quite how to start. We made Prayer Prompting French Fries! Sometimes we want to pray, but we can't find the right words, so these are a great place to start! Then we closed out the campfire in a super yummy way.

When we think of camping, we think trail mix for the hiking trails and ooey gooey s’mores around the campfire, so we combined these two popular camping snacks and made S’more Party Snack Mix to enjoy as an end-of-summer treat! When generous cups of mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, and graham breakfast cereal all mixed together, we sweetly savored the last moments of our campfire together.

What’s Next
Starting this Sunday, Sept. 6, our traditionally beloved Sunday Bible Club children's ministry returns with age-based classrooms:
9AM Worship: Sparks (ages 1-4) and Flames (ages 5 through 5th grade)
11AM Worship: Sparks (toddlers ages 1-2), Flickers (PS/PK), Flare (grades K-1), Blaze (grades 2-3) and Glow (grades 4-5).
We meet every Sunday at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Ave. in Saginaw. Volunteers are needed and welcome. We can't wait to see everyone there!
