In January 2

007, New Life sent Pastor Nate Polzin, who grew up attending New Life and was called into ministry by that church, to Saginaw to plant a new church and start a new campus ministry at Saginaw Valley State University, called Standing in the Gap (www.standinginthegap.us). Gap has grown into a great Christian fellowship at SVSU. On October 4th, 2009, The Church in Drive launched its first Sunday morning service in the Court Street Theater. On June 1, 2011, we moved in to our first location in Bay Plaza and had our Grand Opening on September 18, 2011. We then expanded into a new space at 3081 Bay Plaza Drive (two doors down!). Later we moved to 3617 Mackinaw St. - corner of Mackinaw and Davenport in Saginaw. We currently worship at 6045 Mackinaw - corner of Mackinaw and Kochville in the Community Christian Reformed Church building. To worship with us online, visit churchindrive.com and click "Join"

Final Week Reflection: What Did God Build in You?

As we wrap up our journey through Living the Sermon on the Mount, take a few moments to look back before rushing forward.

Over the past weeks, we’ve practiced:
Intentional obedience
Honest self-examination
Forming a simple rule of life
Becoming hearers and doers

Now reflect:
What practice impacted you most?
Where did you experience resistance?
What will you carry forward into the next 30 days?
How has your foundation shifted?

Storms will come. They always do.
But foundations are formed long before they arrive.

If you’re willing, we’d love to hear from you:

What has God been teaching you?
What has been challenging?
What fruit have you seen?

Drop a comment or send a message. Your reflection may encourage someone else.

Let’s not just admire Jesus’ words — let’s build on them.
Grateful to walk this journey together.

Midweek Check-In: How’s Your Foundation?

We’re halfway through our final week of Living the Sermon on the Mount.

Jesus ends the Sermon on the Mount with a picture: two builders. Same storm. Different foundations.

Storms don’t reveal our foundation — they reveal what we’ve been building on all along.

So here’s your midweek pause:

Have you taken your obedience step yet?
What has tried to shake your foundation this week?
Are you just hearing Jesus’ words — or practicing them?

It’s not too late to begin (or begin again).

Take 10 minutes today: 📖 Read a few verses from Matthew 5–7
🙏 Ask, “What would it look like to actually do this today?”
🪨 Take one small, concrete step.

Strong foundations aren’t built in a moment — they’re built in daily obedience.

Keep going. 🌅

Today we begin our final weekly practice as we complete our journey through the Sermon on the Mount.
Jesus ends this teaching with a simple image:

Two builders.
Two foundations.
One storm.

The difference isn’t who heard His words.
It’s who put them into practice.

This final week isn’t about adding something new.
It’s about choosing to build.

👉 Choose one practice for the week:

1️⃣ Obedience Step
Identify one clear teaching from the Sermon on the Mount that you’ve resisted. Take one concrete step to live it this week.

2️⃣ Storm Reflection
Ask: What tends to shake my foundation—stress, criticism, uncertainty, success?

Invite Jesus into that specific place.

3️⃣ Rule of Life Moment
Choose one practice from the past weeks that you want to carry forward beyond this series. Commit to it for the next 30 days.

4️⃣ Hear & Do
Each day, read a small portion of Matthew 5–7 and ask: What would it look like to actually do this today?

You don’t need to master the Sermon on the Mount.
You don’t need to become a different person overnight.
You simply need to build—one faithful act at a time.

The storms will come.
But foundations are formed long before they arrive.
We’ll finish this together.

Midweek pause.

This week’s practice invites us to slow down our judgments, look honestly at our own hearts, and trust God enough to choose the narrow way—even when it’s quiet or inconvenient.

If you’ve noticed resistance, discomfort, or even a little defensiveness rising up, that’s not failure—it’s awareness. Jesus often meets us right there.

Take a moment today and ask:

Where is God inviting me toward humility or deeper trust right now?

If you forgot your practice, begin again.
If it’s been hard, stay with it.
If it’s been life-giving, give thanks.

One small step today is enough.

Today we begin our fifth weekly practice as we continue re-entering the Sermon on the Mount together.

This week, Jesus speaks about judgment, humility, prayerful dependence, and choosing the narrow way—even when it’s not the easiest path. He invites us to look honestly at ourselves, trust God more deeply, and treat others with the grace we long to receive.

So this week, we’re inviting you to choose one small practice that helps you live this teaching between Sundays.

👉 Choose one practice for the week:

1️⃣ Judgment Fast
When you notice yourself judging someone, pause and pray for them instead. Ask, “What might I not understand?”

2️⃣ Plank Before Speck
Notice one habit or attitude you often criticize in others. Each day, reflect on where that same struggle might live in you.

3️⃣ Persistent Asking
Bring one specific request to God every day this week. Keep asking—not to control the outcome, but to grow in trust.

4️⃣ Narrow Way Choice
Make one intentional decision this week that aligns with Jesus’ teaching—even if it’s inconvenient or unnoticed.

You don’t need to do all of these.
You don’t need to do them perfectly.

Just choose one—and notice what God reveals.

We’ll walk through the week together.

Midweek pause.

This week’s practice invites us to notice what we treasure, what we worry about, and who we trust when life feels uncertain.

If you’ve felt anxious, distracted, or pulled in competing directions, you’re not failing—Jesus is simply naming what’s already there.

Take a moment today to stop and ask:

What am I trusting to carry me right now?

If you’ve missed a day, begin again.
If the practice feels small, trust that it’s enough.
Our Father knows what we need before we ask.

Keep walking. You’re not doing this alone.

Today we begin our fourth weekly practice as we continue re-entering the Sermon on the Mount together.

This week, Jesus turns our attention to what we treasure, what we worry about, and who we trust. He invites us into a life that is less anxious, less divided, and more deeply rooted in the care of our Father.

So this week, we’re inviting you to choose one small practice that helps you live this teaching between Sundays.

👉 Choose one practice for the week:

1️⃣ Single Treasure
Each day, ask: What captured my attention or affection the most today?
End by praying, “God, help me treasure what You treasure.”

2️⃣ Worry Interruption
When worry surfaces, pause and name it out loud.
Then pray: “Father, You already know what I need.”

3️⃣ Provision Gratitude
Once a day, thank God for something specific He has already provided—small or large.

4️⃣ Kingdom First Moment
Make one intentional decision this week that prioritizes God’s kingdom over comfort, convenience, or control.

You don’t need to do all of these.
You don’t need to do them perfectly.
Just choose one—and notice what God reveals.

We’ll walk through the week together.

Today we begin our third weekly practice as we continue re-entering the Sermon on the Mount together.
This week, Jesus invites us into prayer that is quiet, honest, and rooted in dependence—not performance. Prayer that forms us in secret before it ever shapes anything around us.

So this week, we’re inviting you to choose one small practice that helps you live this teaching between Sundays.

👉 Choose one practice for the week:

1️⃣ Daily Hidden Prayer
Pray the Lord’s Prayer once each day, alone and without multitasking. Same place and time if possible.

2️⃣ Prayer Before Input
Each morning, pray before checking your phone. Even 30 seconds counts.

3️⃣ Name the Kingdom
Once a day, pray: “Your kingdom come in ______.”
Fill in a real situation—work, family, stress, or decision-making.

4️⃣ Forgiveness Scan
Ask God to reveal anyone you may be holding resentment toward. Pray for willingness—not resolution.

You don’t need to do all of these.
You don’t need to do them perfectly.
Just choose one—and notice what God reveals.

We’ll walk through the week together.

It’s midweek in our Sermon on the Mount practice.

If you chose a practice on Monday, this is your gentle pause to notice:
Where has this been easy?
Where has it felt costly?
Where might God be inviting you to trust Him a little more?

Jesus’ words this week push us toward faithfulness, honesty, restraint, and even love for our enemies—not to burden us, but to free us.

If you haven’t started yet, it’s not too late.
If you’ve stumbled, grace is still at work.
If you’ve been faithful, God sees it.

Choose to re-enter the practice today—just one small step.

We’re walking this together.

Today we begin our second weekly practice as we continue re-entering the Sermon on the Mount together.
Jesus invites us into a way of life marked by faithfulness, honesty, restraint, and even love for our enemies—not just in theory, but in the ordinary moments of our week. So this week, we’re inviting you to choose one small practice that helps you live this teaching between Sundays.

👉 Choose one practice for the week:

1️⃣ Covenant Care
Intentionally invest in one committed relationship this week. Offer time, attention, or forgiveness.

2️⃣ Truth-Telling
Speak plainly all week—no exaggeration, no over-promising. Let your “yes” be yes.

3️⃣ Non-Retaliation
When wronged or annoyed, resist the urge to defend yourself or get even. Practice restraint instead.

4️⃣ Enemy Prayer
Pray daily for one person who frustrates, opposes, or challenges you. Use their name.

You don’t need to do all of these.
You don’t need to do them perfectly.
Just choose one—and notice what God reveals.
We’ll walk through the week together.
