This week's devotional, Day 1.

Work appears in Scripture before sin does. Before the ground was cursed, before thorns and frustration entered the story, God placed Adam in the garden to cultivate and keep it. Work itself is not punishment. The exhaustion, conflict, futility, and injustice that invade work belong to the Fall, but meaningful labor belongs to God’s good design.

Ephesians 2:10 says that you are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works prepared in advance. Your abilities are not random. Your mind, hands, experience, personality, and opportunities are divine equipment entrusted to you. Your job does not establish your worth, but it does provide a place where your God-given gifts can become faithful stewardship.

This truth confronts both pride and resentment. No task is beneath you when God has entrusted it to you, and no title makes you more valuable than another person. You may be tired, overlooked, or preparing for a healthier place of employment; faithfulness does not require pretending every workplace is good. It does mean that today’s work can still be offered to God. What has He placed in your hands to cultivate right now?

There's a lot going on at Saginaw Wesleyan Church, and we want to be sure you don't miss any of it!

Wednesday, September 9th our midweek programs are back! There has been a time change, we will now meet at 6:30!

The adults will be studying the book "Prayer that Ignites Revival," by Joe Oden. It can be ordered online from many retailers. If you need assistance getting a book, please let us know.

Our children's program, ROAR, for children ages 4 years old - 5th grade also starts Wednesday!

We raised funds during a Special Love Offering last week for one of our ROAR kids, Andrew, who is suffering from Hodgkin's Lymphoma. While the love offering was last week, you can continue to give both in person and online, and we'll make sure the funds get to Andrew and his family.

Denise has challenged all of our Saginaw Wesleyan Women to get into their Bible. There are sheets on the Welcome Center, read 5 chapters each week, and turn in your summaries in exchange for beads to create a bookmark.

There is a lot going on next weekend! Saturday at 10 am we are setting up for the picnic. Sunday is Grandparent's Day and there are some special things planned for our grandparents. After the service is our Annual Picnic! During the picnic Pastor Wade will be baptizing those who wish to be baptized and Nicole will be taking photos for our directory. If you have not signed up to bring a dish to pass, or a dessert for the cake walk, please see what might still be needed and sign up!

September 19th the ladies are meeting for the first time after their summer break. Join them at the church, beginning at 10 am. They'll be talking about what the fall looks like for the ladies!

That same Saturday is the Pig Roast to help raise funds for Andrew. It's at Castaways in Bay City. We're hoping a good number of our Saginaw Wesleyan family shows up to show support.

This week we will be finishing up our Rhythm Series with a message on the Discipline of Work. And finishing up this series, means. Be time to start the next. Next week we'll begin Jigsaw: Separate Pieces, One Picture. We hope you'll join us for the series start on September 13th!

Our final devotional for this week.

Day 5

The early church did not merely attend gatherings; they became a people of the table. They broke bread in their homes, shared life with glad and generous hearts, prayed together, and made the Gospel visible. Their meals were not impressive programs. They were ordinary places where strangers became family and where the presence of Jesus could be experienced.

People today are surrounded by communication and still starving to be known. A sanctuary can feel intimidating to someone who has been rejected or wounded by church, but a table lowers the barriers. There is no stage, no performance, and no need to understand every religious custom. There is food, attention, conversation, and room to discover that grace has a face.

This week, do not wait for the church to launch a program. Set the table. Invite someone who feels alone, overlooked, wounded, or uncertain about faith. Do not turn the meal into a sermon. Be present. Listen. Serve. Trust that when Christ-followers open their tables with love, Jesus Himself is already at work as the true Host.

Pastor Wade will be baptizing anyone wishing to be baptized at the Church Picnic. Whether you're a new Christian, you've been a Christian but never taken this step, or you've been baptized before but need to recommit your life to Christ, we encourage you to speak with Pastor Wade and be baptized at the picnic.

Day 4!
Peter denied Jesus three times, and the weight of that failure followed him into the days after the resurrection. When Jesus met him again, He did not begin with a public lecture. He prepared breakfast on the shore. Around that meal, Jesus asked three questions that met Peter inside his three denials. Grace did not erase the failure; grace met Peter there.

The table became a place of restoration, but restoration was not the end. Jesus told Peter, "Feed my sheep." The man who had been received was now entrusted with receiving others. Peter's failure no longer disqualified him from service. Surrendered to Christ, even the place of his deepest shame became a place from which he could offer mercy and lead faithfully.

Discipleship is more than transferring information. It is sharing life close enough for someone to see how faith works in struggle, prayer, failure, forgiveness, and ordinary obedience. At the table we listen, tell the truth, pray, serve, and keep showing up. This covenant presence helps people experience the steady presence of Jesus through His people.
